The art of singing is dead. Thank MTV for that. Looks and Style matter much more these days. There is a big difference between Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. One could sing, the other got by with her looks and "catchy" songs.

There are plenty of great singers in pop music. For every Britney there is an Adele or Jennifer Hudson. Not that I like this type of music (I listen to hard rock and metal), but these chicks can wail. Heck, even Ga Ga can sing quite well.

There are a lot of great singers, but sadly that isn't what is important anymore. Songs are judged based on their beat and who the artist is that sings them. Even if you didn't think gaga could sing, she has a whole character that will make people in love with (fucking weird if you ask me). Some of the true great female singers I can think of off the top of my head today are Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey (semi-modern since she has been around over 20 years), Christina Aguilera, and Alicia Keys. Those girls can fucking sing man, but Britney has a whole persona that gets people to listen to her

Lol, I'm 30. I still remember the days when the only way you could make it was to have an outstanding voice. These days they can put you in a boy band with maybe two good vocalists, and all the other members come along for the ride. The differnce between Boys II Men and Backstreet Boys or Nsync.
