Further, the data about the presence of sperm in preejaculatory secretions was reported for only 12 men.

Also it is conventional wisdom that the first drop of fluid during sexual arousal has sperm in it. This has been reported since Masters and Johnson wrote their book Human Sexual Response in 1966 and then Human Sexuality in 1982. In fact, on the internet I have seen references citing the highest concentration of human sperm is in that drop or two of precum. The data, however, are more ambiguous. Let me summarize, please, the articles I found:

Zvi Zukerman, David Weiss and Raoul Orieto wrote a short communication in the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics Volume 20, Number 4, April 2003 in which they looked at 12 men. Samples of precum were collected during sexual arousal and the plateau phase (two phases in sexual arousal where you "get it up" and then "keep going.") None of these samples had sperm. All of the men later donated samples by ejaculating after they had not ejaculated for three days and all 12 samples showed sperm. So in 12 fertile men, not a single sperm was found in precum.
