1. Cards $10
2. Flowers $40
3. Dinner $30
4. Candy $10

This is just what I spent on Valentine's Day. My wife also bought cards, flowers and candy. Since we have a joint account it's all both our money. Dinner was cheap because my wife requested Chinese food which tends to be fairly inexpensive. All considered, we probably kept the cost of Valentine's Day to under $200 which isn't too bad really.

flowers are a waste of fucking money..i think i only bought flowers once, and that was for mothers day for my mom... it pisses me off how the flower industry makes a killing off of something not so practical... at least cards last forever, flowers probably last a week and then you gotta toss it out

Most all holidays are driven by merchants making people feel guilty if they dont buy something for someone all they are doing is trying to boost sales.

Agreed

With my ex, everytime I bought her flower, she looked at it at a way of saying "i'm sorry"
so her (and her asshole parents), associated flowers with me having done something bad
needless to say, I stopped buying her flower, or anything else for that matter as she was an ungratefull bitch

My current gf, loves getting flowers and shits like that and she really seems to enjoy it every single time, so that makes me want to buy some more often

I know it's useless, but if that makes her happy... it's just a bit of money out of my pocket for all I care

Valentine was hardly known in Holland 15 yrs ago. Now it's commercialized like mothers day. It's a holiday for spending money. The Americans invented this.

About $400... My girl genuinely likes flowers (she'll actually buy them for herself from time to time), so I bought her a dozen roses and an orchid (her favorite).  We got sushi delivery and had a relaxing evening at her place.

I enjoyed it as did she.
