Fact is, close grip presses are in fact a good exercise for hitting the inner pecs.

Yet muscle fibers run the entire length of a muscle group, from origin to insertion.  Furthermore, all tissue fibers within a motor unit contract together because the entire unit is stimulated by the same neuron, regardless of the angle of resistance you're using. Hence, they receive stimulation for growth throughout their entire length.
