What's the reasoning behind using the hack squat machine in that way? What's the advantage of facing the machine rather than using it in the traditional way? I've seen Will Harris training people to use it that way too.

And I am SICK UP TO HERE of guys saying the leg extension exercise is a great way to warm the knees, etc. Leg extensions are useless, usually. Unless you're some dude who just got out of a hospital bed after several months.

As far as I know Kent Kuehn started this in the mid-eighties (when he was still in great shape). He was using it on his clients and then Charles Glass and others picked it up. Many feel it hits the quad sweep and the glutes better. It was better when hack machines didn’t have that stupid piece that forces your neck forward (when doing regular hacks). When doing the reverse hack that thing makes your arch your head back into a really uncomfortable and possibly dangerous position.

Dex was winning way before glass. At this point there is no point, just never understood what glass can possibly do.

You and I know training isn't the most important so when you say farah I hope you are being sarcastic. Drugs and food are top priority. Thats why this "sport" will never be taken serious. Yeah it's the drop sets, different angles, reps!!! Please ::)

What's the difference between a front squat and doing the hacks facing?

I disagree.  For older BB'ers (and I speak from personal experience here) I think leg ex's are a great way to warm-up quads.  For younger guys, maybe this isn't so.

Yes, that's true. I train at the Venice Gold's. There must be a reason why they select the front facing hacks over this machine. I've never tried the front facing hacks. Perhaps it's worth a shot for comparison

I've done that front facing hacks on occasion and did them yesterday since it was leg day and we have the discussion going on. It does have a different feel to where it his the quads. I also felt it strongly in the sartorius but that nay have been because of the stance. I think it's a good variation.

Please show me one former Mr O who has never done Leg Extentions!    You need them...they are the best for warming up he legs and for a great pump!

Dex had a financally good year so I am sure he is investing in himself like he should, ( supplements, gurus etc) I hink he also realizes his body ain't what it used to be so time to change stuff up.

I've used that last piece of equipment, that squat machine. Good God talk about designed by Satan. Burns like fuck. Awesome machine.

I will never begin a leg workout without either 1 leg or 2 leg extensions. Especially as you get older. When you get to the heavier compound movements your knees are nice and warmed up, quads are nice and tight. It helps my squat form when my quads are already pumped and tight. I also like to go the extra mile and do the dorian warm-up even prior to leg extensions: Core, leg curls, no-weight walking lunges, light weight, couple of sets each. Apparently as you get older you're more injury prone :'(

And yes, I am an absolute nobody here. I know that. But take heed all you younger guys not warming up properly, esp rotator cuffs, core, knees, etc. You will pay. Esp you back rounding mega show off deadlifters.

My injuries- lower back: Deadlifting way out of my league. And what really got me, leg presses, I was going too far down which caused my lower back to round and come off the back pad. That had me bedbound for a week. That happened in 2003. And I'm still feeling it.

right rotator cuff: during the teenage/ early twenty years I would just skip the warm-up and go right to the heavy weight cuz there were chicks and bigger guys there and I couldn't be seen warming up with light weight ::)
