Windows 8 anybody try it out?
« on: March 06, 2012, 08:19:25 PM »
What were your thoughts?  It looks very stupid for a desktop computer to me.  Can you make it so it goes straight to the desktop on start up or do you always have to go to the tile screen?

If you own a MAC, you should be banned from GETBIG - Apple MAC is the very defintion of homosexuality - the only exception is if you are a creative artist, anyone else who owns one is either: under 18, a girl or woman or a complete loser homo! True story!

Everything is now HIDDEN!

Start button? Drag mouse to bottom left hand corner and if you are lucky you will see the start metro tile for you to left click!
Charms are hidden on right of screen!
Users should have a choice of hiding or unhiding!

You need a SSD to run Windows Vista/Windows 7 /Windows 8

A HDD particularly on older hardware will make windows stutter!

A little too much with the metro BS but if it's launched as well as Windows 7 did then maybe things will be looking up.

Just got a new rig with only Ubuntu. Getting a legit version of Windows 7 soon but might hold off and dual boot with 8.

I liked Windows 8 on all my devices - Samsung BUILD tablet, HP Laptop and DELL PC

For the DELL 4600 PC, I dual booted XP and Windows 8
To do do you have to create a free partition on your HDD (say 60Gb)
Then restart XP and boot the Windows 8 DVD
Choose the free partition and Windows 8 installs...

But be warned, if you are running older hardware make sure you use a SSD in place of a HDD otherwise the HDD becomes bottleneck!

Havent tried it but feel hesitant about that look. I heard you can choose the classic view so i dont see what improvements this brings for a stationary computer.

I really like windows from 95 - 7.

My current setup is 7 but with the classic gray look. Dont really care for design elements and animations, just function.

If by now you havent noticed the pattern, you should always skip one version of windows, cuz every other version they create sucks.

Windows 3 ==> good
windows 95 ==> not so good
windows 98==> awesome
win2000/ME ===>sucked
winXP===> possibly the best and most stable ever
win vista==> biggest dissappointment
win7==> awesome, everything clicks and meshes well
win8==> bound to be a fuck up

I just removed windows 8. It's a complicated process to remove windows 8 consumer preview...Most of the stuff(drivers) etc wee working with my machine.  I flat out didn't like it.  However, it's not ready for consumers at this point..

Windows 8 seems a lot more intrusive that previous windows versions. Also the net and apps are more integrated for a richer web experience. AKA microsoft eliminating consumer privacy using windows altogether.

I'll stick to Ubuntu and Win 7 64 Bit. for now

Did you use the metro screen or go to the regular windows screen on startup?  Is there a way to make it by default skip all that metro tile stuff and just show you the desktop on startup?

Yeah I don't like how they are trying to push xbox's ui on to the pc, and smartphones, it isn't meant to be.  Desktop is for complicated stuff, not some internet surfing like on your phone.

Windows 7 seems to be perfect, it just came out too it seems and they are making windows 8 already, seems a little early.  People are still using XP, and it is fine, only thing I don't think XP support's much in the way of SSD's and trim.

Why is it complicated to remove?  Can't you just delete that partition of the drive if it isn't your boot drive and it will automatically get absorbed back into your other boot partition?
