Remember when the Democrats complained about Bush's Imperial Presidency? But now Obama needs fighter jets to protect Air Force One and the Republican Party frontrunners need Secret Service protection... this no longer is a country with checks and balances. It used to be that no President had secretive bodyguards and practically any armed gang of citizens could walk up to the White House and assassinate them. The days of the Republic is over... we're now living in a 21st century Roman Empire.

I agree with you some, but it is also more dangerous for these guys now than the days when anybody could just walk up to the White House.  With Santorum asking for SS so early he probably has gotten a shitload of death threats being the dumbshit he is.  I'll go along with protecting his dumb ass I guess.  I'd rather see him free to spew garbage than be dead for spewing garbage.

You are wrong. Ron Paul most definitely needs protection, ...but not from the people.
Don't think it would be such a good idea to have the fox guarding the henhouse. Look at RFK.  ???
