It's would make for a boring year, that's for sure. And if you fucked up, the whole year is down the tubes? It's been pretty common place for the Mr. O to only do the one show back to Arnold right? How many times has the defending Mr. O competed multiple times the next year? Anyone know? I can think of Ronnie doing the AC and that's it

Only just recently because he doesn't like getting spanked. Most serious pro's try do the four majors hoping for the elusive grandslam. They do all kinds of little tourney's too. And why not, golfer's make bank. Even the 36th place finisher

Ronnie did the AC and the GNC Show of Strength, but lost the latter and never competed outside the Olympia again unless, you include all the Grand Prix events. If you do include those, then Dorian I think also  competed in them as well as Haney and a few others too.

There is no reason why a person can`t do multiple contests........just another line parroted by tons of people who believe you can only peak one time per year or that`s it`s impossible to hold condition for a week or two.

Weight training is very hard, dieting is very hard, the body does not respond the same all the time. Sometimes you do need rest and these guys at the top don't have amater bodies that could peak multiple times a year.

Sprinters only peak a couple of times a year, it's not a case of just replenishing fluids there. Sure they can run 9.95 instead of 9.80 many times in the year but that's like a pro BBer coming in close to condition and being called fat or past it.

So why only one or two now?  Are their muscles too delicate?

Or twice at most........   lame.

Well, if you are complete moron, you can see it that way. We can also turn the question other way. In which sport you have to be training 24/7 trough the year, but you compete only in one or two competitions. You eat, sleep, go to gym, eat, sleep, go to gym and that is all what you do whole year. That is the sport. Then you go and compete with the results of that, once or twice, and the all over again. In which sport training is harder than it is in the bodybuilding? If you count rep by rep and add up every lb which is lifted, I bet there isn't sport which comes even close  ;D

1991   Musclefest Grand Prix   3rd
1991   Mr. Olympia   12th

1992   Chicago Pro Invitational   10th

Back then, the rules were that you had to place:

- Top 3 at the smaller Grand Prix contests,
- Top 5 at the Arnold Classic,
- Top 5 at Night of Champions, or
- Top 10 at the previous year's Olympia
- Win your class at the previous year's World Amateur Championships (Mr. Universe).

So, it appears that competing often was to make more money and make sure you qualified for the Olympia.

Also, notice a pattern here. The less frequently Paris competed, the HIGHER he placed at the Olympia. When he qualified for the '84 Olympia, by winning the '83 Universe, he placed 7th, which qualified him for the '85 Olympia. There, he placed 9th.

Look at the years where was competing, left and right. His Olympia placings: 10th, 14th, and 12th.

Besides, back in the day, there were plenty of bodybuilders who only did the Olympia or just a couple of shows prior to that. Mike Quinn, Shawn Ray, Lee Labrada, and Rich Gaspari were like that.

They are pussies and the politics allow it.

What politics? Where are the rules that cite a minimum amount of contests? It's about exposure and MONEY. Nowadays, bodybuilders don't have to compete as much, because they make more from endorsements and can get more exposure without competing.

Psssst!!!!!  Come here...I have a secret....Bodybuilding isn't a sport; it's a show.  It is pure entertainment and nothing else.
