Sgt. Gary Stein might be saying things about President Obama that a lot of Marines think, but some are saying he took it too far.
Stein has come under fire for stating on Facebook that he wouldn’t follow certain orders given by his commander in chief. And Marines say Stein’s not alone in his disapproval. More anti-Obama talk is being heard in the workplace and new Military Times poll data shows declining approval among military service members for the president’s job as commander in chief.
The Marine Corps depends its chain of command structure, especially in a time of war. Some Marines say Stein and other vocal Marines like him are undermining that system.

AND the oath specifically states that we follow LAWFUL orders. In this way we do not become the “simple soldier only doing what he is told” no matter how henious the act. (See Germany circa 1933-1945).

You are all correct. No Marine or member of the military is obligated to follow unlawful orders. Also the oath that we all swore to “support and defend the CONSTITUTION against all enemies, foreign AND domestic!” We will not follow unlawful orders, especially orders that are counter to the Constitution! Our allegiance is not to the President, nor the person in the office, but the Constitution! Nobama is in for a rude awakening if he tries to use his new Executive order from 12 March 2012 in order to impose ‘order’ in the country! (His potential attempt to impose martial law will be unlawful and he will end up in the Brig!)

Marines don’t have the luxury of having political opinions. This man is the Commander in Chief, like it or not. This Marine should be dealt with according to the UCMJ. If his chain of command won’t do it, they should be replaced. I am no fan of the president but this is not how the military works. This is a fundamental breakdown of the essence of the Marine Corp.

I am happy to know that my fellow Marines recognize the issues and know that there are domestic threats to our Freedom that don’t have bombs attached. The gradual deterioration of our country is evident. The Marine Corps and the Military is a congressional vote away from being disbanded at ANYTIME. Now I understand that this order is a shock – but first of all – It is lawful. Abraham Lincoln declared martial law during the civil war.
How different would Katrina have looked if we had this kind of executive power available – as well as the ability to deploy FEDERAL troop & Engineers/Sea-Bee’s into the area at a moments notice.
The anarchy in the streets would have been quelled almost immediately. The fiasco in the Superdome would have been averted, and Marines would have lead the way to recovery with humanitarian evacuation with Ch-46 & 53′s.
Think of what would happen in a tsunami without this? We need our Marines,other service branches, and resources to provide during an attack from any domestic enemy – ever if that enemy is an act of God.

The DoR has no Executive, Judicial, or, Legislative power. This is still a lawful order.
Now as for civil uprising in accordance with the DoR – You are right – it may be about time, but you just might have to stand up to our own Armed Forces as they have no discretion to use against a lawful order – especially when it comes from our Commander in Chief.

The idea that soldiers are supposed to “follow orders and keep your mouth shut”, when given an unlawful order is foolish.

Being an old school devildoc, I believe it’s this new generaton of military personal. (all branches) Very disrepectful!!! We need to go back to Vietnam era of training to weed these degenerates. All the want is to have a job and education bennies and not accept the responsibilty of the uniform. Article 88: “Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”
