You know some Thai habits but you're either ignorant of their culture or you insist that your world view is the correct one.  Of course a Thai woman looking for a husband is looking for a man to take care of her financially.  What do you think love is to most Thai people?  Love = taking care of that person.  This idea is inculcated in every Thai from the moment they learn to talk.  There's no fucking welfare in Thailand.  If you don't have a job you can starve in the street.  Your family (those you love and who love you) are your safety net.  The basic goal of raising your kid is different in Thailand than it is in the west.  In the west, we try to raise our children to someday be independent and self-sufficient.  In Thailand, kids are raised to be interdependent on their families.  (And guess what, if you marry a Thai, you become family.)  

You kinda sound like you ideas are set in stone, but if you (or anyone else) wants to learn more about this, I highly recommend this (stupidly titled) book:  Thailand Fever.  You can get it from thepiratebay if you're a cheap bastard and can even read the first part (chapter or 2) here:  http://thailandfever.com/
It's written for Thai/western couples so that each understands the other's culture better and avoids a lot of the misunderstandings (especially concerning motivations) that are very common to such couples.  As you turn the pages in the book, the page on the left is written in english and the page on the right is the same thing but in Thai.  Really, this book will open your eyes to the fact that the western way of thinking about love, relationships, and family is not the only way.  I found it fascinating.  
Even if you and your girlfriend/spouse are of one mind about most things, the book will forewarn you of possible shenanigans you'll encounter with respect to her family (who likely don't have as westernised a way of thinking).   For instance, when some of her extended family (cousins -- her brothers and sisters know better, haha) tried to hit me up for money, I did not just tell them "No" like I was inclined to do.  This would've just caused some drama.  Instead, I did it the Thai way, haha, I told them "Sure, I can give you a loan, but I need to analyze my finances to see exactly what I can afford."  And then, whenever they asked my wife about it (via Skype) I would say that now is a bad time or I would stall them some other way.  Eventually, they realized that this khee-neeow farang (cheap honkey) wasn't giving anybody any money but no one lost any face over it.

Good question. And believe you me, I'm trying to find an answer to that question.   Anyway, I'm still sticking to my theory that it wasn't me, it was them;  The first wife was super intelligent and very funny but I was never very physically attracted to her (She was taller than me and was big-boned - weighed 170 and really wasn't fat) the 2nd looked like Miss America but was fairly retarded and an emotional wreck from being abused as a kid.  This 3rd one is just right, I'm hoping.

And the reason I went the Thai route was strictly because of supply and demand.  It's just easy to meet quality women there for a western guy with some money.  BTW, my first wife was German (met her when I was in the army) and 2nd wife was American. 

It this 3rd wife doesn't work out, then I'll give up on the idea of marriage and just hang out an screw hot chicks.
