Sorry, but I would take any steps possible to retreat.  You're trained that way to keep your ass out of prison - and keeps you alive in many situations too.  "Standing your ground" means a stationary target.  moving in an angle against the shooter's body makes it harder for him to track you.  at the same time, you're making yourself smaller and harder to hit, and keeping your cupped hand over face/brain and forearm covering neck and heart - hoping a deflection would save your skin should the perp have good aim.

and you don't have to turn your back and scream to show retreat.  You take a step back, you move to elude, you try to get in your car.  You're positioning your gun as you do so, as you are about to shoot a garage door out the back of his head.  But you can show you sure as hell didn't run into this situation - in fact, you tried to prevent it, and the dead dude on the ground was the aggressor initially, and continued as you fled.  that's 2 agressions.  It's not me and some dude getting out of cars to fight.  Its both of us getting out, and me trying to get back in my car and him giving big chase.

Four Georgia men arrested for 'beating to death' ex-Marine who survived Two tours of duty in Iraq

Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the beating death of a former U.S. Marine who was found unconscious outside of a party at a Cobb County, Georgia, apartment complex in March.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Arthur Batchelor, 37, Tarell Secrest, 36, and Jason Hill, 35, were taken into custody on Tuesday for allegedly killing 34-year-old Zachary 'Zach' Gamble. Another suspect, 38-year-old Sean Hall, of Atlanta, was arrested on Monday.

Hall is also accused of violating his probation stemming from a DUI conviction in 2009, according to the Marietta Daily Journal.

All four suspects have been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. They are being held without bail in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, police say.

90-Year-Old Man Attacked in March Home Invasion Dies

A 90-year-old man who was attacked in his home in March along with his 85-year-old wife died Friday morning, Tulsa police said.

Bob and Nancy Strait were attacked in the 3300 block of East Virgin Street late March 13 or early the next day, police said.

Bob Strait died in Coweta about 11 a.m., Officer Jason Willingham said.

The Medical Examiner's Office will determine whether the death is a result of the injuries he sustained in the attack, Willingham said.

If so, Tyrone Dale David Woodfork, 20, who was arrested March 15 in the attack, will be charged with an additional count of first-degree murder, Willingham said.

Woodfork is already charged with killing Nancy Strait, who died about 7:30 p.m. March 15.

Two people have been killed, and at least 24 other people -- one of them a 12-year-old girl -- have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon.

About 1:26 a.m. Sunday, Devon Paramore, 33, of the 8600 block of West 87th Street, was shot in the back and right armpit in the 1300 block of 13th Street and later pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

The other fatal shooting occurred at 9:09 p.m. on Friday in the city’s Far South Side Pullman neighborhood, where police said they found an unresponsive 16-year-old boy on the sidewalk in the 121000 block of South Green Street.

Donnell Rankin, of the 21700 block of South Clyde Avenue in Sauk Village, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. A Saturday autopsy found Rankin died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred about 11:50 p.m. Sunday when a man in his 40s was shot in the face in the 4400 block of South Berkeley Ave., police said.

He was listed in “stable” condition early Monday.

Five minutes before that a woman was critically wounded when she was shot twice in the lower chest in the 3200 block of West Maypole Ave.

She was standing on the sidewalk with a group of people when someone in a passing light-colored sedan shot her, police said. No one else was injured.

She was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.

About 10:15 p.m. two men were standing on the sidewalk in the 11600 block of South Racine Avenue when they were both shot in the left leg. . . . ------>

Tampa, Florida -- Police want your help finding four men who teamed up to beat a young U.S. Army soldier in a South Tampa street.

It was an awful welcome to Tampa Bay for a young soldier. Police say the victim of a violent beating caught on camera is 24 years old and has lived in Tampa for less than a month.

He's a U.S. Army soldier assigned to MacDill Air Force Base and lives not far from the base at Dale Mabry Hwy. and Interbay Blvd.

Police say Sunday morning, at around 3 a.m., the soldier's car broke down a few miles from home along Westshore Blvd.

The attack came when he was walking home and using Iowa St. to get from Westshore to Dale Mabry. At the intersection of Iowa and Renellie Dr., the man came into the view of a neighbor's motion-activated security camera.

A group of three young men is seen walking ahead of the soldier. Police say one of the men in the group doubled back and asked to soldier to borrow a dollar. When the soldier reached for his wallet, the first punch flew.

The first, tremendous sucker punch laid the victim onto the ground. The other two men joined in, punching and kicking the soldier.

A fourth man comes sprinting into view from the left edge of the video. The new attacker -- a man the soldier said he had walked past earlier -- joined in the beating.

Tampa Police officers say the crooks stole the soldier's wallet and cell phone, then took off south on Renellie Dr. When he eventually got to his feet, the victim had to knock on doors to find someone to help him call 911.

The soldier was taken to Tampa General Hospital with cuts and bruises on his face and head. Police say he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police say they haven't gotten many useful details about the suspects from the video.

The victim was not able to tell police much more: they're all in their late teens to early 20's. Two were black men with an average build, police said. One attacker was possibly Hispanic, also with an average build. The fourth man was also black, but with a heavier build.

Police are hoping someone knows about this brutal beating and will call Tampa Police at 813-354-6600 to help them find the attackers.

Metro Squad seeks suspects who gunned down Raytown jogger

RAYTOWN, MO (KCTV) - A gunman who killed a 60-year-old Raytown man is still on the run and police have new details in their attempts to track the shooter down.

The Metro Squad convened at a Raytown fire station Monday, making it their headquarters while they try to find out as quickly as possible who gunned down Harry Stone outside a gas station.

Stone was standing on the sidewalk just after 7 a.m. Sunday in front of a gas station near 67th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard.

Detectives say Stone was just out for a morning jog, on his normal route, when a dark-colored, four-door sedan pulled by, slowed down, fired several shots at him, then pulled off, without ever stopping.

That car was caught on surveillance video at the gas station, and detectives are planning to release that video for help to track down the shooter.

Police say they weren't able to get much information from Stone before he was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Authorities say there is even more urgency to track down the shooter because of the random nature of this crime.

"It was just such a random act of violence. There was no confrontation beforehand. It was just someone who was shot randomly walking down the street, it could have happened to anybody, it could have been anyone," Metro Squad detective Tom Prudden said.

Stone was the husband of assistant pastor at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Raytown.

Police ask anyone with information about this or anyone driving by at the time call theTIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

where did the media hide this?  we had a big discussion on this sad case monthes ago.  i remember sharing my personal experience of stopping at a pizza place and nearly being carjacked as well.  2 dudes blocked me in and started to get out with beady eyes coming at me.  I kept my gun in hand pointed at ground and mouthed 'no motherfvcker' with about an inch to go before i hammered then the second I saw something in their hands besides car keys.  They said something to each other, got back in and drove off.  i believe concealed carry (and alert paranoid mindset) helped to save my ass that day!

Of course, in this version you've got your gun out.  In other versions, you haven't drawn your gun.

2 cousins plead guilty to shooting Philly city bus

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Two cousins have admitted shooting up a Philadelphia city bus, a strafing captured by dramatic surveillance video that went viral.

Stunningly, no passenger was hit by the multitude of bullets fired into the bus last June.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports (http://bit.ly/KNKWR6 ) 20-year-old Karon Patterson and 22-year-old Raheen Patterson didn't comment during their court hearing Friday.

Police: 2 Canadian Tourists Killed In Random Atlantic City Stabbing Attack

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) – Two female tourists were stabbed to death in what appears to have been a random and unprovoked attack in Atlantic City Monday.

At about 10 a.m., an officer on patrol in the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City saw a 44-year-old woman, identified as Antoinette E. Pelzer, stabbing another woman. The officer drew his gun and ordered Pelzer to drop the knife. She complied and was taken into custody.

Police say an 80-year-old woman and a 47-year-old woman, both Canadian residents, were stabbed multiple times in the upper body region and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where they succumbed to their injuries.

It is unclear if the victims are related; their names are being withheld pending family notification.

Witnesses say Pelzer was attempting to rob one of the victims of her purse. There is no indication the victims and suspect knew each other, according to investigators.

Pelzer had a driver’s license from Pennsylvania and police are looking into where and how long she has been staying in Atlantic City. Those who knew Pelzer are shocked to hear of the news.

“She’s a very good girl, she’s very upstanding and has been a very good friend of mine,” said one woman who did not wish to be identified.

Pelzer is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and robbery. She was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault, but it is anticipated that there will be additional charges due to the deaths of the victims. Bail was not set as of 6 p.m. Monday.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at 609-347-5766.

DENVER, Colorado (KUSA) - Police are
investigating a vicious beating at a
McDonald's drive-thru in Denver.

Shannon, who asked us not to use her last
name, was the victim of an attack on May 9
just before noon.

She called our sister station KUSA 9News,
and asked for help finding her attackers.

"I don't feel safe anymore," Shannon said.

The attack happened in the middle of the
busy lunch hour at the McDonald's on 3300
Colorado Boulevard near Martin Luther King
Jr. Boulevard.

Radio reference recorded dispatchers
describing the attack, as multiple 911 calls

"Two black females are inside. They're
fighting inside the car still in the drive-
thru," one dispatcher can be heard saying.

Shannon has been coming to the same
drive-thru almost every day for five years
without a problem... until this incident.

"I witnessed this young lady throwing trash
out of her car and all I said was that it
wasn't cool," Shannon said.

A few choice words later, Shannon thought
the argument was over.

"All of a sudden I was being attacked,"
Shannon said.

Two women jumped out of the car in front
of her.

"She was right in my window just punching
me in my face, pulling my hair," Shannon
said. "She started biting on my hands so
severely. I thought she was gonna bite 'em
off, actually."

Then a man jumped out of the car and
threw a soda through her window.

"He said, 'This is for you, you white b----.
This is a grape soda.' And then they took
off," Shannon said.

The attack happened in plain view of a
rooftop security camera, but Denver Police
told Shannon the actual beating wasn't
caught on tape.

Investigators won't release the security
video, calling this an "open investigation."

McDonald's management has no comment,
but say it is cooperating with police.

"If they can do that, they can snap and do
something else. Something worse," Shannon
said.

Shannon hopes police find whoever beat
her up before they do it again.

"I don't want anybody else to get hurt like I
got hurt," Shannon said.

The description of the suspects - two black
women and one black man - is vague. The
best clue police have to go on right now is
they were driving a light-blue Cadillac with
temporary tags.
