Author Topic: Robert Kennedy - a legend in bodybuilding (Read 14565 times)

To see a legend suffer is very tough. To see his loved ones hurting is even tougher. No question Robert has had a hard life, with circumstances that no one should face. And now, he is facing the toughest one of all - life. Robert did not come to the Arnold Classic this year to get his Lifetime Achievement Award because he was so sick. The first Arnold Classic he has missed ever.

No comes word that it is worse that we all thought.

Here are the tweets from Tosca Reno this evening.

My heart is breaking.
Life is so short. Love deeply. Do it now and always.
Send messages of love for Bob.
Please pray for Bob. He is my love and my life.

We all have Bob in our hearts and prayers. No question that Bob was a tremendous part of bodybuilding, from MuscleMag International Magazine to Reps to promoting and building up bodybuilding like very few did.

MMI in the early 90's before selling out to Muscletech was probably the best bodybuilding mag on the market. Greg Zulak, Steve Neece, and the Q & A sections (Dave Fisher, Gironda, etc) in particular.

Bob was my boss and is a friend.

The man gave me a shot when I was fresh out of college.

He is truly a legend in bodybuilding.

That magazine of his was a labour of love, the guy really enjoyed it, and it showed. Quality bbing magazine, but when faced with losing it or selling out like everyone else obviously he followed suit.

Good writers, great interviews, columns and pics. Plus bob kennedy had some great books too

Not seeing Robert Kennedy at the Arnold this year, and not having him there for the first time ever to received his Lifetime Achievement Award was sad. Tosca did receive it for him, but exactly what Robert is suffering from is kept quiet, out of respect for family.

Cancer it is, and per Tosca's tweets, it is not looking good. However, she did tweet today

"We have been blessed with another day. I am grateful"

Robert is an icon - one of the originals , 30+ years in the industry, 6 magazines, countless books, and one of the 4 main publishers of the time (Joe Weider, Steve Blechman, John Bailik the other three). I myself have at least 100+ MuscleMags in my collection.

Yeah he did publish some great books in the 80s, i got the whole series back then he done "Awesome arms" "Barn door shoulders" "Mass" etc etc, he was also a Loyal Bloke to Past Champs and gave those Former BBing Champs from past eras room in MM countless times.

First musclemag was in 1973 . Almost 40 years my man .

Compared to others, Robert Kennedy is the a cool guy you'd want to hang out with. His magazines and his books were great and got me through some dark times. My prayers go out to Mr. Kennedy and his wife.

I got to hang out wit Bob in the early 90s. He was great bloke and very nice to me when I first travelled with Sonny. I saw him a few years back and he shared a story with me that brought me to tears. What he had been through was nothing short of tragic, yet he pushed on. Life can kick you so bad. My thoughts are with him. Much respect Robert Kennedy.

I loved Musclemag back in the 90's and early 2000's...it was such a great magazine...made bodybuilding a very entertaining read....then I noticed the mag started to change with a bunch of MuscleTech ads and a bunch of blow-smoke-up-your-ass bullshit articles...thats when I realized the magazine had been high-jacked by MuscleTech and I stopped buying....

But I always trusted Bob and his knowledge of bodybuilding....

Could you one day share the story? There are ALWAYS events in life where we can all learn from. Sadly, Bob Kennedy never got to write a "behind the scenes" book, and I would bet that would have been an incredible contribution...
