In the sport of professional wrestling, competitors like John Cena thrive on being a role model, while other competitors stand back from the spotlight, either because of their character or simply due to personal reasons.
In the case of Rey Mysterio (real name Oscar Gutierrez) , he appeared to be like Cena, enjoying the love and admiration of the fans. During his walk-in to the WWE ring, he would greet his younger fans, usually one that was wearing his masks. Now, parents of these kids may not want their children wearing the Mysterio mask, as he has been suspended 60-days for violating WWE's Talent Wellness Program.
It is the second violation for Mysterio, a former WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion (2x). He is the second WWE Superstar to be suspended in 2012, joining Evan Bourne who was also suspended for 60-days on Jan. 17. Mysterio hasn't been on television lately as he has been recovering from injury, so his suspension won't ruin any storylines, but his failed drug test brings about several questions of the former champion and his ability to compete in a WWE ring without using illegal substances. In a sport that has seen countless performers die at an early age, drug use is not a great way of avoiding that same fate.
Mysterio will likely be enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame once his career is complete despite the suspensions, but for the time being, this suspension will cloud his career. Of course, we don't know what the illegal substance was, or why he was using it, but right now, it doesn't matter. He is just another name on the list of WWE Superstars to be suspended for failing a Talent Wellness test. In 2011, the following superstars were also suspended, R-Truth, Bourne, Heath Slater, Darren Young, Mike Chioda, and Sin Cara.
