LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) -- A male porn star died Friday, five days after police officers used a Taser to subdue him during a confrontation.
The initial incident began Sunday when Los Angeles police officers responded to a call of an attempted suicide in the Reseda area. Officers and paramedics arrived to find 39-year-old Marland Anderson -- also known as the porn star Sledge Hammer -- and his girlfriend.
Police told the Los Angeles Times that Anderson suffered a knife injury.
Anderson's girlfriend told police that he tried to hurt himself with the knife before she pried it away from him.
Officers handcuffed Anderson to a gurney so paramedics could take him to a hospital. Once they loaded him into an ambulance, Anderson tried to stand up and acted with such force that he broke the gurney free from a floor lock and broke the handcuffs, the Times reported.
An officer used a Taser to try and subdue Anderson, but it did not work, police said. Several officers managed to restrain him and paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died Friday morning.
Officials have not yet released information on what caused Anderson's death.
