If bodybuilding is the development of a physique which takes account of size, shape, proportion, symmetry, definition, and presentation in harmonious relation to one another, then Paris had, in my opinion, the best physique (remember Arnold's analogy between a sculptor and a bodybuilder in Pumping Iron ). Yes, there were bigger men, more muscular men, and more defined men, but no one had the balance, concord, and flow of Paris's physique. And I'm talking about a physique (a totality), not a collection of grotesque body parts. Paris looked great from the front; he looked great from the back; he looked great from the side; he looked great standing; he looked great kneeling. Looked great with arms down; looked great with arms up. Paris was, to my mind, what a bodybuilder should be. Looked great on stage; looked great off stage. Can you imagine a contest in, say, 1987-90 wherein Paris, Leidelmeyer, De May, and Mendenhall, to just name a few, competed in their all-time best shape? That contest would, for me, epitomize bodybuilding. Sick! I know what you mean. I was totally naive, and probably still am somewhat, to bodybuilding's gay element. Paris is gay. He's sexually attracted to other men. When I praise Paris's bodybuilding, I have to reconcile such praise with the belief that Paris would rather suck another man's cock than have a cock-hungry chick suck his, and that he'd rather get fucked up the ass than fuck a hot, horned out girl. I find such gay sexual preferences and activities repulsive, but that doesn't mean that I can't bracket my personal attitudes to those preferences and activites to find qualities to admire and respect in Bob Paris.
