The Secret Service Is Looking Into Ted Nugent's Potential Threat Against President Obama
Brett LoGiurato | 19 minutes ago | 172 | 3

So, over the weekend at the National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis, Ted Nugent said that "if Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”

Now the Secret Service is looking into the comment.

"We are aware of it, and we are conducting an appropriate follow-up," Secret Service spokesman told Business Insider via phone. He did not say if the agency was treating the statement as a threat against the President. Oh, and Nugent has also endorsed Mitt Romney, which has prompted Democrats to turn this into their own sort of Hilary Rosen situation.

Nugent's interview, video of which is below via Right Wing Watch, is one of mind-boggling proportions, even for the outlandish statements the "Motor City Madman" has made in the past. He gets into it around the 1:40 mark in the first video, and calls the Obama administration "vile, evil and America-hating." He calls Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "criminals." And he warns that if Obama is elected, the U.S. will become "a suburb of Indonesia."

Before that statement, which caused the most controversy, there is the completely plausible (read: not plausible at all) analogy of Obama and other Democrats to coyotes.

"If the coyote's in your living room, p*ssing on your couch, it's not the coyotes fault. It's your fault for not shooting him," Nugent said. Several supporters in the background say, "That's right."

He moves onto more mainstream, but crucial, talking points of "I'm not taking this crap anymore" and "Leave my paycheck alone" before he goes back to the crazy — a Braveheart analogy.

"We are patriots. We are Braveheart," Nugent said. "We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Any questions?"

Well, yes, a lot of questions, actually.

Anyway, the Democratic National Committee has released a statement from Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz calling on Romney to condemn Nugent's statements. She also refers to Nugent as a "Romney surrogate."

"Mitt Romney surrogate Ted Nugent made offensive comments about President Obama and November’s elections this weekend that are despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale. He called the Administration 'vile,' 'evil' and 'America-hating,' and said much worse. Yet what have we heard from Mitt Romney and the Republican Party, who should be outraged that someone representing them is using language like this to make a political point? Absolutely nothing."

You might remember back in 2007, when Ted Nugent was again being crazy and made what some thought were threats against Obama. He told him then to "suck on" a couple of machine guns he was holding up.

He endorsed Mitt Romney back when it still wasn't completely cool to do so, after a "long heart&soul conversation." That's when his son, Tagg, tweeted this:

Does it mean he's going to kill himself or is he going to go on a shooting spree like that Norway guy? Seems to me that he may be losing it.

Ted Nugent Rebuffs Democratic Attacks: ‘I’m a Black Jew at a Nazi-Klan Rally’
ABC News ^ | April 17, 2012
Posted on April 17, 2012 11:07:44 PM EDT by Free ThinkerNY

Rock guitarist, conservative activist and Mitt Romney supporter Ted Nugent says he stands by his provocative rant against the Obama administration at last weekend’s National Rifle Association convention, despite mounting pressure from Democrats and an investigation by the Secret Service.

“I spoke at the NRA and I will stand by my speech. It was 100 percent positive,” Nugent told the Dana Loesch radio show today. “It’s about we the people taking back our American dream from the corrupt monsters in the federal government under this administration and the communist czars he’s appointed.”

Nugent told a crowd of convention-goers that “if Barack Obama becomes the president in November, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”

“If you can’t go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil, America-hating administration, I don’t even know what you’re made of,” he said at the NRA.

Democrats launched a social media and web video campaign demanding that Nugent retract his statements and Mitt Romney, whom Nugent has endorsed and stumped for, deliver a public rebuke. Romney has not commented.

The Secret Service told ABC News it is aware of Nugent’s comments and conducting “the appropriate follow-up” given the potentially threatening nature of the remarks.

“See, I’m a black Jew at a Nazi-Klan rally, and there are some power-abusing corrupt monsters in our federal government that despise me because I have the audacity to speak the truth to identify the violations of our government, particularly Eric Holder and the president and Tim Geithner, ad nauseum,” Nugent told Loesch.

“I have never in my life threatened anyone’s life. I’m incapable of threatening anyone’s life. Because I’m about positive change, my entire speech, all my articles,” he later added.

Mitt Romney endorser Ted Nugent will meet with the Secret Service Thursday as a followup to his incendiary comments at an NRA convention over the weekend. In an interview with Glenn Beck, Nugent again said the comments were not meant as a threat to anyone and said his political opponents were blowing the tirade out of proportion.

As for the Secret Service probe, Nugent said that he will be meeting with officials on Thursday.

“We actually have heard from the Secret Service and they have a duty. I support them. I salute them. And I look forward to our meeting tomorrow,” he said. “I‘m sure we’ll have a great conversation…bottom line is, I‘ve never threatened anybody’s life in my life. I’ve never threatened. I don’t waste breath threatening.”

Yes, he's been investigated many times by the Secret Service for comments he's made about numerous past presidents.

It's fairly ridiculous to investigate such "threats" but the fact is that the Secret Service is obligated to investigate all threats, no matter how oblique, veiled, tangential or even ridiculous. They do this regardless of which party the President belongs to even when it's plainly obvious that there's really nothing to investigate.

Beyond the Ted Nugent ridiculousness, a quick search turned up the following examples of obvioulsy bogus and dumb "investigations"; I'm sure there's more:

Eminem was investigated for a lyric in a song, which, out of an abundance of caution, I'm not going to reproduce. You can find out the details here: http://www.wnd.com/2003/12/22150/

A highschooler was investigated for thumbtacking a picture of President George W. Bush on the wall (the thumbtack was red, if it matters) and photographing her hand making a "thumbs down" sign next to the picture. More here: http://progressive.org/mag_mc100405

It's one thing to take threats seriously, but these guys crank it way past 11 and take it to a whole 'nother level. Perhaps they need to get laid more often?  ;D

Ugh, Louis Farrakhan...  :-X what a piece of shit. But to correct your answer to yourself, they would and have done so.

so you don't think statements made like he made should even be investigated by the SS?  Really?  They should just stick to looking at people who come right out and say it?

this is Ted Nugent we're talking about.  He knows full well what his words suggested and knowing him, that's exactly what he wanted it to mean.  Thousands of people are looked at each year for statements like this, I don't think Nugent should have some special immunity for excuses.  Nothing happens to most people who are questioned anyway.  He'll just have to tell them what he meant.  For him that probably means lying lol...

I think that it's reasonable for them to investigate things and to me, the Nugent statement is a bit of a grey area - at the border of what should and shouldn't be investigated; if you ask me, I'd say "err on the side of caution" even though I don't think Nugent intended his words as a threat.

The problem that I have is that they routinely go way, way, way overboard. Another example of the ridiculousness, to add to the above two I posted, is the investigation and interrogation of a 13-year old child at school. Details here: http://digitallife.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/05/18/6667233-secret-service-interrogates-13-year-old-over-facebook-post. I think this case is particularly egregious in that the Agents pulled a child out of the classroom, and interrogated him without the consent or even the knowledge of the child's parents.

Nugent: Secret Service satisfied comments did not threaten Obama
LA Times ^ | 4/19/2012 | Michael A. Memoli

Rocker Ted Nugent said he had an amicable meeting with the Secret Service on Thursday, seemingly ending the dustup over controversial comments Nugent made at the National Rifle Assn. convention earlier this week.

Nugent, a longtime conservative and NRA board member who endorsed Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination, had Democrats howling after comments in which he described the Obama administration as "vile, evil and America hating."

If Obama won reelection, Nugent said he "will either be dead or in jail," and also called on conservatives to "ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November."

Ted Nugent is just like every other right winger douche nozzle

They are loudmouths when they have their guns and pussies the rest of the time

Nugent has been a nutbag since the time he shit his pants to get out of the draft (classic move by a true patriot)

I personally hope Nugent's proclamation comes true and that he is either dead or in jail this time next year

my preference would be dead so that we don't have to spend any money on him

Eh.... I think they need to consider the source and the context. Like AVXO said its a grey area. I personally think its a waste of resources over a shock statement.
