do you believe that there is such a thing as over-training?
or maybe you follow the barbarian brothers old motto of "there's no such thing as over-training, only under-eating"?
Food has no effect on the CNS.
I have obliterated my CNS into the ground a number of times, completely screwing up my adrenal cortex leading to a bunch of other issues
that carried over to my life outside the gym. This was when I was doing a lot of compound lifts and strongman stuff, all very taxing on the CNS.
I have tried eating my way out of being overtrained many, many times with absolutely no success.
It took me months of recovery and special medication to solve my cortisol issues from being so horribly overtrained. I did all of this thinking that
my hardcore ethic would make me more successful than the average gymrat.
I have done so many different routines and variations with my lifting over the past ten years, and I have learned a lot about what my body can and
can't handle.
Over the last few months I have done almost no compound lifting, just a couple sets at the beginning of my session followed by many, many sets of
isolation exercises with short or no rest periods in between. Training in that way is almost like cardio, I noticed increased recovery, lower HR and BP, and
other benefits that I normally get with regular cardiovascular training.
Another thing I noticed training in this manner was that it made me feel energized after each session instead of fatigued into the ground. That max effort
heavy compound HIT style lifting always left me exhausted, beat down, tired but restless, and hungry but unable to get the food down. It felt like I had been run
over by a truck the day after each session, and that was on an EOD lifting schedule.
Since switching to higher rep, higher volume isolation work, I can train back to back days and actually feel good after each session.
