A new ruling makes it easier for anyone attacked by a pit bull or pit bull mix in Maryland to take legal action against the dog's owner

The Maryland Court of Appeals ruling declares pit bulls as a breed are "inherently dangerous," and the owner of a pit bull or a cross-bred pit that attacks is strictly liable for damages, as is any landlord who rents to a pit bull owner. The Maryland SPCA, which arranges adoptions for dogs that need homes, currently has three pit bulls under its care: a five-month-old Brutus is scheduled to be adopted this week, Ayoki is available and Valentina will be put up for adoption soon. But the SPCA is concerned that it may be harder to find adoptive homes and families may abandon pit bulls after the recent ruling.

“We believe that an animal’s behavior should be the determining factor in whether or not the animal is considered dangerous,” said Cheryl Bernard Smith, of SPCA. “We don't believe that a particular breed should be pinpointed for that."

Anyone who thinks Pitbulls are inherently dangerous is ignorant and a moron for speaking with no knowledge. Those of us who have worked first hand with the breed, and know them well, know that they are extremely loving, people friendly dogs, with one of the highest temperament rating (check the atts scores).

Maybe they should start with the fact that "pitbull" is not even a breed, it is a generic term used to describe a large number of dogs including mixes who have certain "pitbull" type features. The term is actually meant to cover 5 breeds including the American Pitbull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier. One of the main characteristics of all 5 is that they are known to be extremely friendly, loyal and trusting towards humans while some have some inherent animal aggression.

It's a shame that some really great dogs have to suffer because of a bunch of idiots like this. smh

Like I said, I have a website now, and have outlet for anti pitbull sentiment, wont even bother arguing with those who sponsor child killing, the thought that a so called civilised person could sponsor child murder and do it as if they were the victim, it is pretty frightening. To hear the average Pidiots perverted arguments and putdowns is just annoying, once a person learns the truth, there is no need to engage the lying side- even the dullest of people can see that Pidiots are arguing for some perverted narcisstic reward and that they couldn't give a flying fuck about their community - Of all the people in society that could be considered a threat or dangerous, Pitbull Owners would be first choice, not the type of people you would want to let your children be around.
