If Mitt doesn't get 50.1% of the delegates...
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:36:36 AM »
I read on Politico this morning that if Romney doesn't get 1100 people to stand up for him at the convention - then all delegates are free to re-vote ANY WAY THEY WISH.

Romney has 904 of the 1100+ delegates he needs.
BUT
Ron Pual is trying all sorts of shit to get them not to vote, to get them to change votes, etc.

Politico listed several completely legal methods which allows them to change, or choose not to vote at all.

So my Q is... What would the two thousand delegates do if they got a RE-VOTE... Between Romney and Ron Paul... (keeping in mind many of them are avid RP guys and romney  has lukewarm support at best).

COuld Ron Paul really steal this thing from Romney, and do it legally?

This is OLD news. Yes, if there is a brokered convention (no candidate gets 50% + 1 of the vote) then the delegates are set free for whoever they want to vote for. This gives Ron Paul a SIGNIFICANT chance, since this has been his strategy all along. Mitt Romney has NO chance. But don't forget that the delegates at a brokered convention can choose someone who is not running to be the GOP nominee. So we could see a darkhorse candidate emerge IF (this is a big "IF") Mitt Romney is denied 50% + 1 of the delegates. A darkhorse candidate could be someone like Rand Paul or Mike Lee, who have support from Ron Paul folks AND a lot of mainstream conservatives (think: Hannity and Levin types). Or if mainstream conservatives and establishment Republicans overpower the Ron Paul folks at the convention, then you could see the emergence of someone else.

true, but ron paul is pretty much the one single-handedly facilitating this "less than 50%" of delegates strategy.

So I'd guess most of the delegates would back him.  Is Jeb that much diff from Mitt?  If they're ballsy enough to give their finger to the electoral system, wouldn't they also shrug off an establishment candidate too?
