You do realize that social rules are not universal ( I am not condoning the actions here just talking about broader things)?
If you grew up in Amazon area it would for you be perfectly normal to kill people and shrink their heads and put it on your wall to marvel at. All cultures and societies make their own rules but people forget that their own practices are often thought off as strange by others.
In Africa in some tribes biys must be circumcised without any painkillers of any kind to prove they are men. In Europe some eat very small birds (not eggs, but actual birds) under a little white blanket whre they eat the birds and you hear them cracking their bones and shit. Disgusting shit. In Asia they eat rats and dogs. In India they think we are completely crazy that we in cows. Shit goes on.
So saying that another country is socially inept is a sign off your own inability to see the real situation and instead argumenting from your own standpoint.
Turn the CHina thing around and hear them say 'those white folks sure are socially inept'. Who is right. BOTH are right
I understand what you are saying as far as social rules being different in different cultures, but for me, anything that involves being cruel or causing suffering for other sentient beings is wrong.
I don't understand the social norms in a place like Thailand, where being a 'ladyboy' is perfectly acceptable, but I am ok with it because they aren't doing anything wrong to one another.
Even if it is socially acceptable in Chinese culture to eat dead babies, and that is what they are raised to believe and accept as normal, it still doesn't make it right. Those new guinea tribal guys that

By telling everyone in the tribe that it was to be socially accepted and it would make the boys into men, he was able to justify his (what I believe to be) morally
wrong behavior. Forcing boys to perform homosexual acts is cruel. If the culture was set up to where you could volunteer to blow a tribal elder because you think it might make you stronger, then by all means go for it.
That would be a social norm to them that I would accept as being ok for them to do, even though I don't understand it all and think it is beyond weird.
