Newbie diet, advice appreciated
« on: November 01, 2005, 10:46:06 AM »
Hi all, my name is Ben from the UK.

Im 6`1 and 190 pounds.

Ive been training for nearly 2 months now. Ive been making pretty good progress particulary with my arms, chest and lats.

Im just concerned that my diet could be improved or re-organised that would allow me to make even better progress. When I first started out I used to use protien power but this messed up my bowels so now I try and stick to real food.

Anyways I will list my daily diet below and I be grateful if anyone good give me any tips on anything I should add or change.

- breakfast (pre gym), 2 pieces of toast with peanut butter, apple and banana.

- post gym meal, 2 tins of sardines or 1 can of salmon for a change, either variation contains about 40 grams of protein.

- Eat atleast 100 grams of nuts throughout the day - usually almonds.

- Lunch usually consists of cheese sandwich or tuna jacket potato, bag of tomatoes and fresh orange.

- Evening meal usually stif fry incuding 2 chicken breasts (about 350 grams) and lots of veg.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Ben

If you're new too training you need to be taking advantage of this period of time. Eat eat and eat. More red meat and chicken. I ate everything under the sun when I first started working out and it paid off. The first 3 months I gained 20lbs, all natural, and probably 90% of that was muscle.

Once you're well on your way, you can scale it back -
2 Chicken breasts + 1/4-1/2 cup rice + mixed vegetables

repeat 4-6 times per day.

Keep the almonds and that about all you need.

Don't listen to this clown

1) You need to eat way more
2) Not that you have to count calories, but carbs and fats are very important too.
3) Just at a glance, your first meal needs to be much bigger.  This is the meal of the day, so pig out.
4) Take some different protien after your workout, that your body will digest faster.

For breakfast you need to have more than just that.  Eat 8 scrambled eggs, bowl of oatmeal, 2 oranges.

Eat every 2.5 hours, lots of lean beef, chicken, *fish*, red potatos, yams, veggies, fruits.   And before bed have a protein shake, muscle milk is a betime protein powder that works great.  Mainly because you heal the most when you sleep and you must have something before bed to keep you out of a catablic state.

Thanks for the advise guys....You say I should avoid fish for protein after a workout as it takes a while to digest...Is there a natural alternative that would be better? or should I consider supplements?
