I saw an ad for a tv show with him on it, seems he has been into delivering the pancakes more than anything else lately.

To be honest, that guy has had it a lot worse. He ended up in a garbage truck in Goodfellas.

I think it's actually the other way round, Seagal was discrediting of van damme quite early on and believed he didn't really have martial arts skills when in fact he has a solid competitive fight record. Recently on Howard Stern Van Damme said positive things about Seagal, I can't see a film between them happening plus seagal is so out of shape and ubelievable now his movies look ridiculous these days.

There are some similarities between Seagal and SMM - delusions of grandeur.

During the early part of his career Seagal tried to pose as a CIA hit man, a mafia insider etc...in other words create a tough guy persona for the public.

All the lies unravelled when his partner Nasso ( who had real mafia connections ) was tried and imprisoned for embezzlement or some similar crap. During the court proceedings Seagal had to come clean about his grandiose stories and admitted that they were made up.  He also lied about being the only westerner to run an aikido dojo in Japan and battling the yakuza when in fact it was his father in laws dojo ( his first wife was Japanese) and the only battle he got into in Japan was chasing a drunk out of the dojo. Let's not forget the Gene La Bell incident where the wanna be tough guy was choked out by a genuine tough guy. Seagal apparenty lost control of his bladder when Gene choked him out....twice.

I remember that and van damme actually challenged him to a refereed match and Seagal backed out.

He uses stunt doubles for his straight to DVD movies. Someone mentioned he needed a stunt double just for getting out of a car. :D

Oddly enough Seagal's first movie " Above the law" was an instant hit. He didn't need to build up gradually like some of the other martial arts actors of that era. No flashy kicks just straightforward Aikido got the attention of millions making him a star in the process.  He's ranked as an 8th Dan black belt in Aikido. Wonder if that grading is smoke and mirrors like all his other bizarre claims.
