What a fucking moron.... ::)  We got kids that can't read and write out there and you're wasting time discussing Obama???

A North Carolina high school teacher was captured on video shouting at a student who questioned President Obama and suggesting he could be arrested for criticizing a sitting president.

The Salisbury Post, which first reported on the YouTube video, did not identify the teacher in question, who is reportedly on staff at North Rowan High School. The video does not show faces, but the heated argument in the classroom can clearly be heard.

"Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush?" the teacher said toward the end of the argument, telling the student, "you are not supposed to slander the president."

The student told the teacher that one can't be arrested "unless you threaten the president."

The argument started when the classroom began discussing news reports that Mitt Romney bullied a fellow student when he was in high school. At the time, The Washington Post had recently published a lengthy article alleging that Romney, as a teenager, had cut off another student's hair.

"Didn't Obama bully somebody though?" a student in the North Carolina classroom asked when the report was brought up, referring to an incident Obama described in his memoir "Dreams From My Father." In the book, Obama wrote that, as a child, he once pushed a female classmate after other students taunted them -- the only two black students in their grade -- and called Obama her boyfriend.

The teacher, in the video, said she didn't know whether Obama bullied anyone -- but the argument quickly escalated, as the teacher yelled at the student, telling him "there is no comparison."

"He's running for president," she said of Romney. "Obama is the president."

The student argued that both candidates are "just men," but the teacher took issue with the statement.

"He's just a man. Obama is no god," the student said.

The teacher responded: "Let me tell you something ... you will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom."

According to the Salisbury Post, the teacher is still employed and has not been suspended.

"The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students," the school said in a statement, published by the Post. "Due to personnel and student confidentiality, we cannot discuss the matter publicly."

Teachers aren't told they must stifle their personal opinions and not TEACH them as curriculum .. do you honestly think this is the first instance of such unreasonable acts in schools by teachers ?

Freedom of speech is something many many people are not allowed to practice around the world ... risking prison sentences in some countries

When the good ole USA employs these types of teachers it does nothing to help our youth build a strong mind and independent thinking practice

The teacher should be fired

Any and all teachers should be fired for religious or political injection into classroom discussion.  It's reading, writing, and math that's going to get these kids to college and have a good life....not this shit.

I'm not against discussions on current topics but kids should be encouraged to express their opinions and explain them without being THREATENED or INTIMIDATED

How does a child learn if they aren't allowed to question ?

No, they need to be told to discuss those issues OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL and stick to the study plan.  School should be for learning...not for debates....that's why we're so far behind compared to other countries that have a much less budget than we do.

learning how the government works is part of school curriculum ... children grow up to be voters

debates are totally different than open discussion ... open discussion is a good thing ... bringing in threats by adults hinders growth and knowledge

There's no problem with kids learning how the government works....there's a problem when the discussion has a bias intimidation towards a particular candidate.  That's why the legal age to vote is 18 because kids are impressionable and ignorant of backdoor politics.

In my civics class in high school, we were taught about the structure of government, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution....there was no mention of Bush Sr or Dukakis or other stuff.

Its simply wrong to use your influence as a teacher to convince children to side with a particular philosophy, belief, or person.  She should shut the fuck up and teach civics.

North Rowan (North Carolina) teacher suspended
 The Salisbury Post ^ | May 21, 2012 | Nathan Hardin

SALISBURY — Rowan-Salisbury Schools officials suspended a North Rowan High School teacher Monday while investigating an incident caught on camera where the teacher told a student he could be arrested for speaking ill of President Barack Obama.

In a nearly 10-minute YouTube video shot by a student in the classroom, Tanya Dixon-Neely, a social studies teacher, told students criticism of the president could lead to jail time.

“Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush?” she said of former President Bush. “Do you realize you are not supposed to slander the president?”

Dixon-Neely has been suspended with pay, according to Rowan-Salisbury School System Spokeswoman Rita Foil.

On Friday, Foil said the incident can be a learning experience.

“The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students.”

A Salisbury Post reporter went to Dixon-Neely's home for comment this morning, but no one answered the door. Calls to her number have gone unanswered and there is no answering machine.

The video went viral over the weekend and viewership jumped from about 1,000 views to more than 168,000 Monday morning.

they can be raised with awareness and the thoughtfulness to question .. then by the time they are 18 they can cast a vote they feel is right

analysis is great - even if it leaves some people butthurt politically.

if an AP history class does an analysis of "was the iraq war properly and legally executed by the Bush admin", I'm fine with that.  If a POS lib teacher decides to launch a fake war crimes trial, then she can eat a dick.

Same with listing the good or bad things obama's done and analyzing them - but this teacher getting all whiny, she should STFU and keep emotion out of it.  Respect the office of the presidency, that's great, but getting butthurt about it, really...

Student Who Recorded Teacher Yelling at Him for Criticizing President Obama Speaks Out

by Fox and Friends Posted in: 2012 Election, Barack Obama, Education, George W. Bush, Hunter Rogers, Mitt Romney, North Carolina, Teacher

A teacher is now suspended with pay after audio was found of her yelling at a student for criticizing President Obama. It all began in the classroom when the topic of the day was a discussion regarding GOP contender Mitt Romney being a bully in high school. When the student challenged the teacher, the audio reveals she began yelling at him.

In the audio clip, she said, “That’s disrespect!” The student then responds, “You’re disrespecting Romney!” That, of course, prompts another response from the teacher, who says, “How’s that disrespect? He’s not the president! You will not disrespect the President of the United States in this classroom!”

The student involved in that incident, Hunter Rogers, and his mother, Gina Rogers, spoke out about this matter on today’s Fox and Friends. After he asked the teacher if Obama had been a bully, he said she immediately got defensive and responded, “Not to my knowledge.”

Looks like Ozzy in his youth.

But i give the kid ton of credit - he handled himself way better than the teacher did.
