I feel you.. but thats retrospect... back then it was a lot about states rights.. Not saying i defend it as im a Patriot. But Im not sure its cut and dry. Its just easier to explain that way. But would you be suprise to know that Robert E. Lee didnt like slavery.. its pretty well documented. He was loyal to Virginia first.. and then the United States. I think the view of the loyalty was changed after the civil war and cemented in ww1 to US first..

looking back now, when discussing who "started" the war, one can argue that the southern states had the right to secede and that lincoln did not have the authority to force them to remain in the union.... HOWEVER.. the fact remains that the southern states (the vast majority of them at least) seceded because they feared lincoln was going to abolish slavery

The duty of the federal government is to provide an army for protection of the state, and subsidize road projects etc. If a state wants to have legalized marijuana, the federal government shouldn't be able to come in and supersede that law. It's like the government treats its states like the foreign countries we deal with. You either play ball the way we want it, or you get no aid.

The war was never about slavery, it was just a small issue that the civil war was blamed on. Those thinking otherwise are ignorant.  That being said I think slavery is despicable and one of the biggest "black eyes" of this nation.
