Low Carb Logic - Am I missing somthing here?
« on: May 27, 2012, 10:59:42 AM »
First, I can go completely zero carb (10g's a day?) and I feel great, more energy, no cravings after the second or third day.  This shit works so well for me.

It seems to me that because this was the diet humans ate for millions of years (greens, and meat right?), that it has to be the most healthy and beneficial diet for us.  It's the way we were made to eat?  Am I right about that?  I've read all these articles, and seen documentaries that explain how saturated fat is actually healthy, and that cultures around the world that eat high fat/protein, low carb are lean, and healthy.

If we were all animals in an extraterrestrial zoo, would our diet not be meats and greens?  ;D

Carbs are pushed, IMHO, cause theyre easily synthesized and sustainable.
Meat, is not.

IMHO, its the quality of the meat and the kinds that matter.
I like carbs, but theyre overrated.

However, I feel like dogshit when I dont eat carbs for more than a couple days at a time.

I think you're right, I was reading about that study in the 40's or 50's about the seven nations and Japan having the lowest rate of heart disease and how that unscientifically lead to the government recommending a diet low in fat and high in grain.  I wonder if that was an effort to push these cheap processed foods.

Non essential nutrient but man do they taste good. Also, try training for a while without any carbs...not the same(sucks).

Just eat non processed foods. There are plenty of natural carbs  but there's much less because they aren't processed.  meats veg  nuts fruit. Its all good. Start eating processed meats pasta sugar cake and your fat.

That's what I do generally but right now I'm really working on losing fat.

Am I wrong though, in my logic that low/no carb is the best diet for humans, and that we evolved on that diet?

Thanks, that's what I was looking for!  8)

Also, on this diet my face gets so fucking clear and healthy looking.  I believe acne wasn't as much of an issue a long time ago.  Is Acne a side effect of all these carbohydrates?

I wonder just how many carbs humans millions of years ago were eating?  How many tree leaves does it take to equal 100grams or 200 grams or 500 grams a day? And is there carbs in insects? And when they got there hands on some fruit trees, how long before they end up being type II diabetics?

This would be like us feeding Lions and Tigers bread and cereal and claiming that it's more healthy for them than what they eat in the wild.

Unless I'm missing something, humans probably didn't exceed 40g carbs per day for millions of years, and suddenly their eating 300g's a day and some claim that it's more healthy?

???

Its easier to feed millions of people with highly processed foods that are shelf stable. Fucking monsanto has a huge interest in making sure you eat your god damn doritos.

I cant wait to go on a low carb diet again. It really makes wonders for your body along with weight training and cardio. The body loves every minute of what your doing to it. Carbs are known for providing the body energy, but the funny thing is - after you`ve been on a diet for a while, eating carbs again actually makes you feel more lazy, and it takes longer for the body to restore itself after training sessions. Thats one major plus during a diet, you are able to recover much faster. :)

Ketosis is great many awesome benefits. Biggest one for me is sleep. I sleep my 8 hrs at night then get up full of energy and never really want a nap till it's bed time again. When eating carbs I am constantly tired and even wake up tired.

Am I missing something? Are you saying carbs didn't exist millions of years ago? What do you think happened to the first human who came across a gross of apple trees? He probably lived his whole life right around those trees eating as much as he could until they were all gone. Are you saying he would only eat one or two apples a day so he didn't exceed 40grams of carbs a day? lol

If every single waking moment of your life was to find and eat food, there's no way you would be eating low carbs. And by low, i'm going by under 50grams.

First of all, we're about 100-200 thousand years old as a species, not millions. But your point is still well taken: we'd have been hunter-gatherers for the overwhelming majority of that time and only recently did we settle down, begin domesticating plants and various crops, and begin mass producing carbohydrates. There was much more fat and protein on the menu during those early years, probably.

Why don't gorilla's eat a shit load of fat and protein? These things are massive and eat a shit load of vegetation etc. Is it possible that we too did the same thing?

As far as I know, fruit was generally few and far between. Primitive man couldn't eat fruit everyday.  I don't believe the wild fruit was as rich as our modern day fruit that's been selectively bred either.

you may be right...But I personally don't believe anything written about primitive man or even 3/4 of our own history dating back just a thousand years. To me, it only makes sense that we would start out as vegans and  our first real protein would come from insects. As we watched other animals kill each other, we would most likely eat the scraps until we honed our skills to eat animals.

Fruit is ok. If you eat like a caveman you probably ate your ecological apples with the peel and in self regulated doses. It's the excess of carbs like in apple juice that is not natural. And worse is the carbs from pasta and bread. And even worse is the added sugar in everything manufactored.
It adds up.
