If the kid is good enough to earn a scholarship (which it sounds like he is) then I think he should get one just like any other player would. They have to be competitive with it, if they were like "well we'd like you to come here but your dad's rich so he's gonna have to foot the bill, no scholarship for you so we can save it for some other kid", he could very tell them to fuck off and go somewhere else (and take the millions $ in donations Diddy will likely make with him).
There are enough free handouts for minorities and people from low socioeconomic situations on the academic side of universities. Athletic scholarships should stay merit-based in my opinion, and the majority of them do go to black kids from poor families anyway. No need to get in an uproar when a rich kid earns one too.
