Best arms on a short man? Better than Lee Priest?
^^
Actually I have to give it to Thierry- his were not only super-huge, they were perfectly SHAPED as well, unlike Lee's.

thought he wax 5'2

Seems like Nubret and John Brown were the trainer of Champions---Nubret: Pastel, Beyeke
John Brown: Shawn Ray, Melvin Anthony.

You know how shawn ray was 5'7" or 5'6" or 5'7", 5'8"

Padilla somewhere between 5'2" and 5'5"

Pastel is somewhere between 5' and 5'4",  ;)

I'm not sure, but I think nubret and benfatto also knew each other, wether they worked togetheror not, don't know

Gaspari = hyped, overrated POS.

In that pic gaspari is way past his best

He was the nr2 bbr in the world once, in a very competitive era, with a good gene pool of good bbers, in a time when bbing was probably at its best phase in marketability to the mainstream.

The guy was vieny, that's about it.  Wide waisted and his arms were 17".  Haney made him look like a little boy.  I have no idea how he placed 2nd to Haney.  Demay, Christian and Paris consistantly blew him away.  I was at the '89 Arnold... people were booing when he won.

Alone, you can see that Priest is a midget (long torso, short legs, short arms ..)

Pastel's proportions are perfect and don't forget its enormous calves and legs.
It's best shape was at Olympia 94 where he was stolen for the top 3.

In bodybuilding 9 times out of ten literally, the more compact guy has the advantage in the judges's eyes, all three bodybuilders you mentioned, although bigger, look a lot more slender and less compact, so in all fairness, from a judging criteria point of view Gaspari was placed right.

Any contest where Gaspari places ahead of Demay or Paris is a fixed contest.

Pastel has close to perfect arm shape, Lee's insertions look off to me and as you said he has midget proportions, no contest.

Remove the height issue and Pastel has one of the best physiques ever.

X2

Pastel alone looked great. Only next to taller guys did one notice he was short

If you put him on a pony, he'd look look like a normal height guy, riding a horse. Until someone of normal height came along on a real horse

People boo at every show if their fave doesn't win

Christian was all upper body, probably the best upper body in the 80s along with mendenhall

Paris never really dialed it in, even though he was the most blessed structure wise guy was almost perfect

Gaspari didn't have a pretty physique, but was proportionate within his capabilities, and conditioned better than anyone. He stopped training legs, stopped training abs, always trying to get ahead, his legs grew too big, his waist was blocky.
Very driven and professional competitor.

The thing that came across in the 80s was competitiveness, consumate pros, great presentation, a certain pizzazz and the appearance of work-ethic

Guys like zane, dickerson, bannout, haney, labrada, gaspari, christian, paris, platz, etc, all great showman, well spoken, articulate and polished

It felt like a real sport

Crazy good build. The pic of him and Benfatto is what bodybuilding should be about.

So,

Out of the whole fucking post, this is all you guys pick up on!? ;D

Yes. I didn't say "it was a real sport" or "a time when it was a sport"

I said "felt like"

And if it ever came close to being a sport, it was then

Even if it was half mockery, or nothing else worthwhile, the talk shows featured bbers as guests at times. Espn, and news channels, no jokes, would mention or show highlights
