The guy was vieny, that's about it. Wide waisted and his arms were 17". Haney made him look like a little boy. I have no idea how he placed 2nd to Haney. Demay, Christian and Paris consistantly blew him away. I was at the '89 Arnold... people were booing when he won.
People boo at every show if their fave doesn't win
Christian was all upper body, probably the best upper body in the 80s along with mendenhall
Paris never really dialed it in, even though he was the most blessed structure wise guy was almost perfect
Gaspari didn't have a pretty physique, but was proportionate within his capabilities, and conditioned better than anyone. He stopped training legs, stopped training abs, always trying to get ahead, his legs grew too big, his waist was blocky.
Very driven and professional competitor.
The thing that came across in the 80s was competitiveness, consumate pros, great presentation, a certain pizzazz and the appearance of work-ethic
Guys like zane, dickerson, bannout, haney, labrada, gaspari, christian, paris, platz, etc, all great showman, well spoken, articulate and polished
It felt like a real sport
