Romney Raising Cash from Traditionally Dem Cities
Tuesday, 21 Aug 2012

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is raising millions of dollars in traditionally Democratic areas this summer.

That's as his campaign has out-raised President Barack Obama for a third straight month since May.

An Associated Press analysis of campaign finance data found donors from New York to Los Angeles contributed to Romney or the Republican Party with checks both large and small.

Obama and his advisers say they will likely be outspent by November.

Last month, Romney and the GOP reported a combined $101 million in fundraising while Obama and the Democrats said they raised $75 million.

Romney tops Obama in fundraising race
By Charles Riley @CNNMoney August 22, 2012

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Mitt Romney has extended his lead over President Obama in this election cycle's race for campaign cash.

The Republican had almost $186 million in cash on hand at the end of July, compared to $124 million for Obama -- figures that include donations made to the campaigns, party committees and joint fundraising efforts.

The latest fundraising totals, filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission, indicate that Obama will likely face a financial disadvantage during the closing weeks of the 2012 campaign.

Second position is an unusual spot for Obama. In 2008, Obama shattered all previous fundraising records by bringing in an excess of $750 million -- far more than John McCain.

But Romney has dashed any hopes Obama might have harbored for continued dominance in 2012. The past two months have been particularly fruitful for the Republican challenger, as Romney's team produced a haul of more than $200 million in June and July.

Over the same time period, Obama's campaign mustered a comparatively modest $147 million.

And the gap between the candidates may be widening. The Romney campaign has said its fundraising totals have increased in recent days after the addition of Rep. Paul Ryan to the ticket.

Republicans have an even bigger money advantage when spending by super PACs and other outside groups is included.

According to the latest data from the Center for Responsive Politics, outside conservative groups have spent $221.5 million this cycle, while liberal groups have spent $55.6 million.

Obama advisers have long acknowledged that the Romney campaign was likely to outspend the president in the final months leading up to Election Day, but they have expressed confidence that investments made in prior months would put Obama back in the White House.

That strategy was on display in July as the Obama campaign raised $49.2 million but spent $59 million. The high burn rate in recent months has paid for staffer salaries, field offices and other facets of the "ground game" that Obama will rely on in November.

Republicans, meanwhile, are confident their fundraising hauls will be enough to finance their efforts through Election Day.

"We now are in a position to outspend [President Barack Obama's re-election effort] on television and tell our story and tell the Mitt Romney story, starting with our convention and going through the fall," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Monday on CNN.

The Republican convention begins next Monday in Tampa.

Democrats worry over fundraising as Romney adds to campaign war chest
By Ed Henry
Published September 05, 2012
FoxNews.com

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  Senior Democratic sources say that in closed-door meetings with campaign donors here at the convention, top Obama campaign officials like campaign manager Jim Messina are expressing increasing alarm over the fact that Republican Mitt Romney raised $100 million in the month of August alone, further expanding his cash edge.

The Democratic sources tell Fox News the Obama team is privately saying they believe the final days of the presidential race are now shaping up as a dramatic battle between money and demographics, with President Obama's advisers fearful that Romney will use his war chest to unleash a bombardment of television ads and ground game to turn out more white, working-class voters.

Nevertheless, the Obama team is saying in these private meetings they are still confident that they can win by exploiting their demographic edge with Hispanic, African-American and female voters, among others. As a result, the president's Thursday night acceptance speech is expected to be full of direct appeals to these voters.

Stephanie Cutter, deputy campaign manager for the Obama campaign, downplayed the money concerns by telling Fox News that more negative ads will only backfire on Romney.

"There's no doubt that we're going to be outspent, we've always believed that," said Cutter. "But we're going to have enough money to implement our strategy and just take a look at over the last several months: there's been hundreds of millions of dollars spent in negative advertising against the president and the only numbers that have moved are Romney's unfavorables."

The fundraising questions come as campaign officials confirm a Washington Post report that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the former White House chief of staff, is stepping down from his honorary role as a co-chairman of the Obama campaign so that he can help juice fundraising by outside Democratic Super PACs.

Republicans have dominated the Super PAC money chase, with Democratic groups like Priorities USA now also relying on former President Bill Clinton to help close the vast fundraising gap.

Cutter noted, though, that Obama has still been able to stay neck-and-neck with Romney and is leading in many battlegrounds despite the fundraising shortfall.

"We've got an advantage on the ground," said Cutter. "Being here in North Carolina, the number of people that came out volunteer their time to help us build this convention and will volunteer their time to help us get out the vote the remaining two months is testament to the fact that we've made really good investments. Investments on the ground, investments in our grass roots. And because of that enthusiasm and people willing to work for the president's reelection, it gives us a significant advantage."

RNC raises over $35 million in August
Posted by
CNN Political Reporter Peter Hamby

Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee raised a record $35.6 million in August, giving the GOP a financial boost at a time when Mitt Romney's campaign was forced to take out a $20 million line of credit.

The RNC now has $76.6 million in the bank, a source at the committee told CNN.

– Check out the CNN Electoral Map and Calculator and game out your own strategy for November.

The cash haul marks the best August on record for the RNC.

The committee has also raised more this year – just over $193 million - than in any previous election cycle.

"The support and enthusiasm we are seeing from large and small donors ensures we have the resources to fund the gold standard of ground games as we head into the final stretch of the campaign to elect Mitt Romney as the next President" the RNC source boasted.

Formal fundraising reports from the campaigns and their affiliated committees are due to be filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday.

The Romney campaign was forced to borrow $20 million in August because, by law, the de facto GOP nominee could not tap his general election funds until after accepting the nomination at the Republican National Convention.

Their August line of credit was first reported Wednesday by The National Review.

At this point the money they've raised is almost useless

wtf can they do it with it other than to run the same stupid ads and it doesn't do a bit of good when their candidate says something stupid every time he opens his mouth

RNC raises over $35 million in August

What did the DNC raise in August?

Cute timing on the news release.  Tomorrow Romney announces something about his campaign being ten million in debt, right?

Romney raises $111.8 million in October

By EMILY SCHULTHEIS
10/25/12

Mitt Romney's campaign announced this morning that the GOP ticket and the Republican National Committee raised $111.8 million between Oct. 1 and Oct. 17.

It's an impressive number, especially given how many months they've now broken the $100 million number. This period includes all three presidential debates and the VP debate, when Romney's strong performance in the first debate especially helped bring in a flurry of donations.

The campaign still has just more than $169 million on hand as of Oct. 17, which is a big war chest for the final few weeks of the campaign and enough to really flood the airwaves with ads now through Nov. 6.
