call it now! does Obamacare get overturned?
« on: June 21, 2012, 08:18:34 AM »
Included in many discussions on Obamacare was the impending strike down by the Supreme Court

Next week they are supposed to rule on it.

Call it now will it pass or be over turned?

(we all know 83% of doctors won't quit their profession if it gets passed, even people who suck spin cock don't really believe that)

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/06/11/supreme-court-saves-best-for-last-2/

As usual, the Supreme Court, although close to the end of its term, is in no hurry to decide its big cases.  Among the remaining cases to be decided in the 2011-12 term:

Broadcast indecency: The court is weighing whether fines levied by the Federal Communications Commission against broadcasts it considered indecent violate First Amendment free-speech rights. The cases at issue include awards shows where celebrities such as Cher uttered expletives. Here is past WSJ coverage. THURSDAY UPDATE: The court ruled against the FCC in the indecency case, saying it didn’t give fair notice to broadcasters.

Juvenile sentences: The justices will decide on life sentences without parole for juveniles convicted of homicide. It’s the latest case in which the court is considering whether harsh sentences for people under 18 violate the Eight Amendment prohibition of cruel and unusual punishments. More details in this WSJ article on the arguments in March.

Stolen valor: The Stolen Valor Act, enacted in 2006, makes it a federal crime for a person to claim falsely to have received a U.S. military medal. A California man admits he lied when he said he won the Medal of Honor but says his statements were protected by the First Amendment. Here is the WSJ coverage.

Arizona immigration: The court’s final argument of the term, on April 25, involved Arizona’s tough anti-immigration law. The justices suggested they were ready to uphold at least one part of the law—a provision directing police to check the immigration status of people they stop—but the fate of other provisions was less clear. WSJ argument story here.

And, lest we forget, there’s one other matter before the Supreme Court that has gained some attention.

The fate of President Barack Obama’s health-care law—the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—is expected to be decided in the last week of June. Here’s our coverage from March 27, the pivotal day of arguments.

side note for discussion:  If it gets shut down is OB toast in November?   If it gets passed is OB winning in November?

Romney is probably hoping it does NOT get overturned.

Cause if the economy is getting better (rick scott admits it is in broke ass florida..)
Cause if Obamacare if no longer an issue (if it is overturned)

What does Romney run on?   What is his core issue?  Toss out economy and obamacare, he's gonna do WHAT exactly better?

If the mandate goes, it's all academic. I think it goes down 6-3.

Romney is probably hoping it does NOT get overturned.

What are you smoking again? Less than 24 hours ago, you were complaining about Fox News, not focusing on the fact that the economy sucks, to cover "Fast and Furious".

Now, you claim the economy is getting better, only because you think that hurts Romney (even AFTER the abysmal jobs number arrived today).

As for citing Rick Scott of Florida, that's no difference than Scott Walker in Wisconsin. The theme the same: under REPUBLICAN governors and legislatures, some state economies are improving IN SPITE OF, not because of, Obama's policies.

Romney needs a cause to get ppl to vote for him.

They're mad about the economy.  They're mad about obamacare.

The minute they're not mad anymore, voter turnout suffers.

They're mad about the economy.  They're mad about obamacare.

Voter turnout suffers for Obama, not for Romney.

The truth is, they should be happy. Tuesday's vote was about a lot more than Walker. It was a test of the election strategies both parties have been deploying for November. It was mountains of money flowing through super PACs against grassroots organization, Tea Party conservatives against labor union liberals, and the influence of the national parties at the state level.

The Republicans even had a chance to test the effectiveness of their "big government is what's causing the still-sagging economy" message.

It worked.

And the Democrats are shaking in their political boots....

What's scariest for the Democrats is that they fought with all they had, in what the head of the Democratic National Committee called a "dry run" for Obama's general election ground game.

They sent in more than 100 paid staffers to work with teams of volunteers fanning out from more than 40 party-run offices.

"All of the Obama for America and state-party resources, our grass-roots network, is fully engaged," DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz told the Times.

It failed.

And, if the result in Wisconsin is truly a sign of the pent-up power conservatives will unleash in November, Obama is going to have to do a much better job of getting the vote out.

The problem is, Obama is strong with Hispanics, blacks, gays and youth. But that might not help him much.

Hispanics, blacks and young people have the lowest voter turnout of just about anybody. At least one 2007 study showed that gay men and lesbians vote in stunningly high percentages, but they make up a relatively low number of voters -- an estimated 7.3 percent of the nation’s total at the time of the study.

Republicans are strong with Tea Party conservatives, Evangelical Christians, and older voters, who all tend to turn out for elections in extremely high numbers.

That all adds up to good news for Romney. Wisconsin proves it.

http://en.terra.com/elections-2012/news/obama_shocker_wisconsin_dry_run_is_a_democratic_belly_flop/act482183

Why are black people going to rally for Obama again? Highest unemployment of all demographics!! Toss in Obamnesty and the gay "marriage" flap.

Why are young voters going to show up again? Half of college grads are unemployed/underemployed. Teen unemployment is at record highs.

The unions just stated that they aren't funding his campaign anymore and Romney's outraised him two months straight and (even by some Dems' admission) will generate more money than Obama.

That doesn't sound like people failing to turn out for Romney.

You legally have to pay for health insurance.

THAT IS BEYOND BELIEF.....

Certain groups would be excluded (illegal immigrants, drug addicts, criminals, people that won't work), but have the same access to free healthcare as the people paying for it.

The Middle-class would be anally raped once again.

That. 33 is spot on with this one; at least I think. Regardless of the outcome it will be an interesting decision to read.

Ginsburg sort of let it out of the bag from what I can tell.   I think Sotomayor sides with the conservatives on the mandate, but She and Kennedy go w keeping the rest.

But, there's no severability clause. Without the mandate, the whole thing collapses. Like public-sector unions, most people will run from this as fast as their feet will carry them, if they aren't forced to pay for it.

But, of course, the delusional left and our resident TK members, much as they did with the Wisconsin woodshed whipping, will attempt to spin defeat into victory (in the likelihood ObamaCare goes down).

Little details like that are of no concern for the League of Evi... I mean for the Supreme Court!

No, it will harm obama's legacy in a big way.

But it will also be one less rallying cry for romney.  he was speaking from a 'repeal obamacare' podium about 2 weeks back.  THAT is probably the biggest issue (aside from economy) that motivates repubs to donate, knock on doors, etc.

We all know that if the economy is perceived as better, and obamacare is gone - Repubs are a lot less pissed off.   Not the batshit crazy angry ones that post here.  The ones who take their meds.

Yes, short of your one little "disclaimer", you just gave us an excuse why Obamacare being repealed will help Obama (and therefore will be regarded as a victory for him).
Already spinnin'. I know you like to troll the right on here, but people arent stupid.

it hurt republican motivation in the short term.

Maybe you think UE drops to 4% and Romney still wins.  I disagree lol.
