Monsanto Faced with Paying 7.5 Billion Back to Farmers
« on: June 21, 2012, 12:38:19 PM »
Monsanto may soon be forced to pay as much as 7.5 billion dollars back to the farmers who say that the mega corporation took their rightfully earned income and taxed their small businesses to financial shambles. It all started with a monumental lawsuit launched by over 5 million farmers against Monsanto looking to recover financial losses from ridiculous seed taxes that bankrupted many families.

Don't like Monsanto?  Don't like massive government subsidies to genetically-altered crops and meat production facilities?

This is why I shop almost exclusively at farmers markets and independent butchers.  In doing so, I end up supporting local farmers who put out much fresh produce and it greatly helps out the local economy(many of these farmers receive very little subsidies, if any at all).  I enjoy steroid-free meat such as free-range chicken and freshly butchered pigs that are raised humanely on farms.  I'll even take my boat out for fresh fish.  I've cut my grocery bills nearly in half while at the same time getting much higher quality food(though I do spend a tad more on gas due to driving distance).

Ditch the grocery store and the fast food joints, people.  America is the number one producer of food, there is no reason for Americans to be buying frozen shit imported from China or Vietnam.

They're doing everything they can to shut down farmers markets and small producers.  Also, don't think that just because it's sold at the farmers market that nothing from monsanto touches it.

On another forum they said how it's unlikely Monsanto will have to pay, but that this will send them, and governments around the world a serious warning.

The only thing that sends a message to the kind of people that run Monsanto is a serious hit to their bottom line...  These fuckers won't look twice if they're not smacked for what they've done; they'll just keep doing everything like nothing ever happened.  I'd bet money on that lol...  If they don't get hit on this, no message is sent to anyone.

Only thing that would send a message to these fucks is to dismantle them - I have never seen a Corp I ACTUALLY considered evil until Monsanto came along, and yet they are allowed to continue with these ruthless business practices, and no one ever does shit to them.

Id love to see the farmers of this country band together and give Monsanto the finger. It'd be awesome if they burned their fucking HQ to the ground.

Isnt Bill Gates a huge owner in this company? I read in an article somewhere that the food served to Monsanto employees is 100% natural, no GMO is served to the employees. Yet they push it on everyone else.

Yeah, that worries me, and I also read somewhere that GMO was shown to cause sterility in the test rodents like 2 or 3 generations down the road.
I never really mention it cause I dont remember what the source was, but the very idea is pretty horrifying. Wouldnt suprise me in the least. Especially with Gates involved.

They're fucking around with shit they shouldn't be fucking around with. There are possible side effects and the side effects are numerous depending on what they've done to the genetic code and they just keep going in that area so it's really hard to say what this or that crop might do to the consumer. And they get away with it because they buy the right to get away with it like any other corporation does. They really are a modern version of Victor Frankenstein. These are some evil fucking bastards. But I'll bet you can't pin it on one single person working for Monsanto. This is why, IMO, a corporation is not a person. Because a person has a conscience where a corporation often runs without one. A corporation can easily become a creation out of control and with no regard to the moral consequences of what it does. A person always has to answer for themself with any given decision they make: is this right or wrong? A corporation like Monsanto, not so much where morally wrong choices are made instantly because it will improve their bottom line.

A person HAS to ask: is this right?
A corporation only asks: will this be profitable?

I dont necessarily think that their intentions are inherently bad, like you say, if it works its their bottom line. Especially the geneticists themselves, they probably have semi-pure intentions.

But at some point, you have to ask, who is approving these business practices? Who thinks its ok to try and run small time farmers out of business with bullshit lawsuits and spraying poison on their crops? What group of people are responsible for approving this?

You know someone somewhere has brought the possible side effects up to the high level decision makers - clearly they dont give a rats ass if they fuck up generations of people, weather it be farmers, or people that have terrible side effects from the alterations.

They do everything in their power to run the regular everday farmers out of business, and why? Because they dont buy an tiny amount of seed from them every year?

They try and patent regular seeds (to force all the farmers into buying GMO seed), yet at the same time they have huge storehouses of the regular seed. Why?

They do their best to force their seed everywhere, but wont feed it to their employees or families. Why?

There is something that stinks with that place. Badly. And I think it goes beyond the profit margin.

Monsanto's GMO crops are contaminating surrounding farmers fields (pollination).  If that alone isn't bad enough (and worthy of a lawsuit), Monsanto is actually suing THE FARMERS, claiming Patent infringement.

You worthless fucking moron you......  :P
