Link me.

And I am assuming they are used to increase tricep strength. Well, I am not assuming, I know that is at least one of the reasons they are used.

Just one of the reasons. The other is to help break through sticking points in the bench press (done with barbell as well). Right now we use it as an axillary lift for our Linemen and Linebackers to help create more power when engaging. These are done on our speed days, reps are low, weight is heavy and done fast and explosive.

Well, increasing tricep strength is one way of breaking through sticking points in your bench press, so those are really one and the same.

Well said, but the other methods are not as much of a 'spectacle' such as the one coach endorses.

Truly innovative! How did you ever come up with all this stuff!

Fails compared to a standard horizontal press, since ROM is compromised.

Fails compared to a standard horizontal press in terms of what?

Benching off the floor really limits the range of motion. It will allow you to use more weight because you are moving the weight a shorter distance.

I noticed some things about big benchers. Many have short arms and a big thick torso. This limits the range of motion and allows for big numbers. Inflate the chest and arch your back can take 8 plus inches off the amount of inches you have to push the bar. Simple Physics illustrates that the less a weight is moved the less work is being done.

I really liked the Hammer strength bench press for this reason.  The start is the same for everyone. Suddenly big benchers couldn't bench more that some guys that couldn't even come close to beating them on the conventional bench. The reason was the advantage of a short range of motion couldn't be applied.

I can better isolate my pecs with the floor press rather than with the bench. I don't know if this is the goal of floor press, but it works on me, and it also preserves my (broken by the bench) shoulders.

Coach is confusing the mechanisms with the end goal. The end goal is to break through a sticking point (increase bench press strength). However, coach has only identified 1 mechanism by which people break through a sticking point, and that is to increase tricep strength.

Coach, besides increasing tricep strength, how else do floor presses help someone break through a sticking point?

The bench is one of the most over rated exercises concerning improving athletic function. A clean and press would be better but it's to hard and takes to much effort. Most would rather lie on a bed (bench) and push a weight.

So I guess you'd like me to write a full article describing all of the components deemed necessary to break through sticking points of the bench press even though it's been beaten to death by every powerlifting rag in the world? Or do you not understand what the correlations might be? You think along the lines of isolation related to bodybuilding, I choose not to keep it so simple. Do you know the difference between power and strength?

Coach, you're evading the question. Remember, YOU'RE the supposed expert, not me. Remember, I do not know what I am talking about and I weigh 110 pounds, so why are you asking ME what the correlations are?

I ask again: how does floor presses increase overall strength (bench press)?

1. Increase tricep strength
2. ?
3. ?
4. ?
5. ?
6. ?

Surely you can fill in the above points with a few brief words. So no need to write a full, detailed article. I am sure an expert can briefly fill in the above points without writing a whole article.

In reality, that machine COULD give the same results, but let's not be stupid.

Trainers trying to be creative and look unique in order to sell services is where this type of BS was invented.

A barbell or dumbells and an adjustable bench could mimmick your gimmick perfectly in a much safer manner.

Is this more your speed? haha

That with the stack and some plates added wouldn't be too horrible, no :)

I thought floor presses were generally paused in the bottom position?  That's a good set regardless, Joe.

you hear alot of guys say they do db's instead of barbells on the bench for a better range of motion. but they don't have any better range of motion than these floor presses.

Its not an owning, you idiot. You're supposed to be the expert, not me. It would be an owning if I claimed to have every single answer as to why floor presses increase strength. I listed one answer. I never claimed to know the multitude of reasons why you claim floor presses are so good. I am simply asking you! Thus, it is not an owning, because me asking you is admitting I do not know why. Gee, you have no common sense.

I await your answer.

Fllor presses are not a replacement for pressing movements, if some of you stopped to think for a minute you would realize that the range of motion on the floor press is only the upper half of the movement.....what muscle groups are called into play during the upper half of a flat press? Anyone?
