A horrified court room looked on today as a man who had just been convicted of burning down his $3.5 million mansion collapsed and died in front of them.

Michael Marin, 53, was found guilty of arson by a jury in Maricopa County Superior Court. He appeared shocked and closed his eyes as the verdict was read before appearing to put something in his mouth and wash it down with liquid in a plastic water bottle.

In the shocking court room video, he then fell to the floor a few minutes later in convulsions. Mr Marin was taken to a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was pronounced dead.

The video is at the usual channel / webpage

Dude was a wimp!  Could not face the music.  Who wants to check out by popping a suicide pill?  Better to flee the country and live life on the lam... adopt a new identity and live abroad... etc.  8)

I second that - people who have money cannot deal with the fact not having that luxury anymore.

Its so fucking pointless, if there is one thing I have learned in life, you can be all the way down and feel you never get another chance and BANG here it is a day a year a few years later and you're back on your feet.

Guy could be happy laughing right now who know.

If it came to that I would have no qualms about fleeing the country and living on the lam.  Fake IDs, fake names, wigs, constantly moving, etc.  Wasn't James 'Whitey' Bulger on the lam for 16 years before they caught him?  And he was living in the US.  Suicide only makes sense if you are very old and/or have a terminal illness with terrible pain that they cannot treat.  I'd take being found guilty as a challenge!  ;D

Truth, I often wonder why Bernie Maddoff didn't run when he had the chance.  With that kind of money he could have lived large in Paraguay or some no extradition  country.  Could have been up to his neck in fine ass Russian bitches.  He must have known they were going to cricify him.

" Marin was earlier told he would face 16 years jail if convicted of the 2009 blaze, which he escaped wearing a scuba-diving suit. "

Scuba suits, cyanide capsules......... This guy was James Bonding it till the end. Thing is though, I'm not sure how much this guy was worth, but he might of been able to knock that sentence down quite a bit if he threw money at it.

Agree. it would be a very exciting life. At the very least, this millionaire should have tried this and just keep the cyanide pill with him at all times if they were closing in on him. I would think that would be insanely fun as long as you have an endless amount of money.

Aals, no one has an endless amount of money.

About a year or two ago I recall a case in the news with this bad guy, in his forties, who was found guilty of some financial chicanery and was headed to the slammer for years.  Dude tried to fake his death in a plane crash!  As the plane was going down, he parachuted to safety and jumped on a motorcycle he previously positioned in a nearby storage facility for his getaway.  It was pretty daring, but poorly executed and he was caught (can’t remember how).  Anyhow they threw him in the slammer!  I give him props for his James Bond imagination!  :D

If you had to flee the US and live life on the lam/off the grid where would you go?  There are some parts of Mexico I could see disappearing in (I've lived in Mexico before)... or several Caribbean islands I could live on (did that too)... Which reminds me, how much should a good fake Passport or drivers license cost? ???

Another one!  :-X

Manhunt for Georgia money manager accused of embezzling millions
By Jason Sickles

Did Georgia money manager Aubrey Lee Price commit suicide in shame or skip town with $17 million?

According to the FBI, the 46-year-old disappeared in mid-June "after telling acquaintances that he had lost a large amount of money through trading activities and that he planned to kill himself."

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Price told some people he planned to jump to his death off a ferry. The FBI says he was last seen boarding a ferry boat in Key West bound for Fort Myers on June 16. A Coast Guard search has not turned up a body.

Last week, the Department of Justice charged Price with embezzling millions from a small southern Georgia bank he took over in December 2010.
"The complaint alleges that, instead of investing the money as promised, Price fraudulently wired the bank's funds to accounts that he personally controlled at other financial institutions and provided bank management with altered documents to make it appear as if he had invested the bank's money in Treasury securities," the justice department said in a statement.

But in the alleged suicide note obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Price maintained he did nothing illegal.

"I hid many things fraudulently and deceptively, to try and give myself more time to pull some positive returns together," the note said. "To be clear, nothing has been taken, only lost through stressful periods of trading a bad investments ... I am emotionally overwhelmed and incapable of continuing in this life."

The FBI believes Price may own real estate in Venezuela and Guatemala. They are asking for the public's help in solving the mystery.

Wendy Cross, an Atlanta woman who reportedly lost $364,000 in the alleged scheme, says Price is fooling folks again.

"I don't believe he's dead. I believe he planned for this exit," Cross told the Atlanta newspaper.

"This guy," she said, "was the best actor."
