Lance Armstrong charged by US Anti-Doping Agency - oops

Lance Armstrong charged by US Anti-Doping Agency. Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has been formally charged with using performance-enhancing drugs by the US Anti-Doping Agency. The case will now be heard by an arbitration panel, who will decide the outcome of the hearing.

Armstrong, whose seven wins came consecutively between 1999 to 2005, could be stripped of his titles and banned from cycling if found guilty. However, the 40-year-old denies doping, noting he has never failed a drug test.

 Born: Plano, Texas
Teams: Motorola, Cofidis, US Postal, Discovery Channel, Livestrong, Astana, Team RadioShack
 Tour de France: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 (22 individual stage wins)
 World championships road race: 1993

In a statement, USADA said: "All respondents will have the opportunity to exercise their right to a full public arbitration hearing, should they so choose, where all evidence would be presented, witness testimony would be given under oath, and an independent group of arbitrators would ultimately decide the outcome of the case."

Earlier this month, Armstrong urged the USADA review board to dismiss allegations brought against him, with his legal team stating that the claims were "long on stale allegations disproved long ago and short on evidence". They argue their client is unable to mount a legitimate defence until he is able to see the evidence against him, though USADA has said it is withholding witness identities to protect them from intimidation.

Armstrong, who survived testicular cancer prior to his record-breaking Tour wins, retired after the 2005 race, but made a comeback in 2009. He retired for a second time in February 2011, taking up triathlon earlier this year

I remember years ago when everybody was wearing those Armstrong 'Live Strong' bracelets, The Onion was selling ones that said 'Cheat to Win.' I thought about getting one of those, but never did.  ;D

Lance tested positive for EPO a couple of times while doing the Tour of Switzerland in preparation for the Tour de France. His urine samples were randomly tested by the UCI years after his first Tour de France victory and lo and behold he tested positive again. On both times the UCI came to the rescue and hid both positives from the public.

The main problem with Lance Armstrong and him getting busted is that, while he was racing and winning, he was wise enough to make donations to key people and organizations, people with a lot of connections if you will. Heck, at one point he donated testing material to the laboratories that were going to test his samples. He also donated money to the WADA and the UCI, so they're going to have a heck of a time bringing him down because he'll bring down many people/organizations. That plus he is American AND white.

You can tell that the UCI and WADA treat everyone differently because Tour de France 2010 winner, Alberto Contador of Spain, got busted for 50 picograms of clenbuterol, presumably because he was the one that brought down the Texan's comeback to cycling in 2008 (or 2009?). My iPad has more picograms of clenbuterol than that guy. And this is a clear example of how the anti-doping authorities are stepping out of bounds at this point: The positives cannot, lawfully, be classified as doping per se, they will taylor doping programmes based on the person and they will bend the rules depending on how much money you donate to their crook friends.

Oh, it is a witch hunt indeed. Without a doubt.

And the worst thing is that cyclists don't have ½ a brain to get together and force the UCI and WADA to simmer down considerably. Instead they agree to all these rules and regulations, including being made out a doper even though you did not dope, agreeing to get tested at any point at any time and to not publicly disagree with the powers-that-be.

Years ago there was a well known case of a cyclist forced to get tested on his wedding day!

Drug testing is ruining baseball.  Wait until they start testing for HGH in the NFL, it will look like the 1980's again.  The public is totally indifferent as to whether athletes use drugs, why should the leagues care (or our government for that matter).

It'll be interesting what happens after the tour ends. I have a feeling a lot people are going to come forward and admit a lot of things. Hincapie announced his retirement when the news originally broke in mid-june. I suspect he's going to come clean and open up to  the investigators without having to worry about losing anything since he'll be 'retired'.

Sounds like a lot of other riders are going to fess up too. Prepare for a possible shit storm around the corner unveiling a major doping program/conspiracy between: LA, Johan, Dr Ferrari, and so on.

Can they test for GH? I thought peptide hormones were nearly impossible to test for unless in the extreme supraphysiologic range?

Lance is no hero. He is a fake. All he is is predicated on a lie.

You say he's inspired people? Inspired them to what, to believe in his bullshit?

I hope Lance burns, along with the corrupt UCI, WADA, etc.
