The Obama campaign also thought they found something good with all the other distractions. And, all reports DO NOT have Obama winning this election. Not with a youth vote that's dramatically depressed, not with white-working-class voters abandoning Obama, and certainly not with Obama's lousy economic record and ObamaCare.

Being under 50% approval this late in an election is not a spot an incumbent should find himself. And, considering that three states that were once solidly blue are now toss up (including Michigan), it's easy to see why the Obama campaign is desperately pushing this Bain stuff.

This is a very effective ad!  The details to not matter so much; just the words “Swiss Bank account” and “Cayman Islands” is enough to smear him.

The fact is most Americans do not have a Swiss bank account nor do they personally know anyone with a Swiss bank account.  Most Americans only know of Swiss bank accounts through movies, television, and news reports, and 95% of the time the accounts are being used by someone to hide money (from taxes), launder money, or otherwise engage in some sort of criminal activity.  Average voters do not like that.

Can you imagine what George Romney would say if his political opponent had a Swiss bank account?  The only way for an American citizen to have a Swiss bank account (or an account in the Cayman Islands or elsewhere) without looking sleazy is to be a dual citizen of that country.  Mitt fails that test.
