Nice write up as usual - I really enjoy these. Written true to form, it's hard to see anyone at Hulks level beating SS.

Surfer just has too much going for him. Hulk can out muscle him, but that's not going to get him anywhere in this fight.

A silly contest, to be sure. Not only does SS match Hulk's physical strength the Surfer has the power Cosmic! That's HUGE in the Marvel Universe. He also has his Board! At the end of the day the Hulk is just a physically very strong human with recuperative powers. He can easily drown (in water) or suffocate from lack of oxygen (in space for example) making him pretty vulnerable. They tend to downplay this in the comics but he is vulnerable to fire, plasma, and temperature extremes at the other end of the spectrum. Hulk's muscle mass is schmoetastic, but SS has him beat by a mile.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Kinda weird that SS can overpower the Hulk, yet Thor, who can stand toe to toe with the SS, cant?

As Bay said, for all his strength, Hulk is still just a man. I dont understand the new Marvel writers.

not stand to toe to toe.... he batters beats down and humiliates surfer 90% of the time they fight...
there was a saga blood and thunder he beat surfer maybe 4 times in that saga.. along with the infinity watch adam warlock etc....

planet hulk was ok
world war hulk was utter garbage.....
it was like a graphic written by a pure hulk fan boy... rubbish

Ok didnt see that... They have made hulk so strong now it's like Thor can no longer brawl with him .... He doesn't even punch Hulk anymore just uses his hammer ... Thor strongest of the norsegods doesn't use strength in comics anymore only his hammer ..... Marvel is so onesided damn I feel for Thor fanboys

Unfortunately characters change over time and not always for the better.

The thing with Thor now it's going to come down to perception.

The beatings and depowerings Thor has been taking in-continuity or not (for the last 10 years or so) will hurt and has been hurting his image more worst than you can imagine. When writers (or future writers, etc.) read these issues or need to reference information it sets a precedence on how Thor is perceived and matches up against other opponents. This will influence their stories and continue Thor's downward spiral into oblivion. If you don't think it's true just look at what Thor #385 vs the Hulk did. Also Kurt Busiek and Dan Jurgens depowerings of Thor (not bulletproof??) and the loss to Superman in the JLA/Avengers crossover back in 2003. Those works set the standard on how Thor is written today and will continue to be. When these stories set a blueprint on how Thor is to the future what do you think the results will be? Look how it is today and ask yourselves why?

Don't necessarily agree super man trounced hulk like 3 times
Batman even beat hulk.... Anyway I just collect back issues rarely and read comics how they should be written
