The gift
« on: July 22, 2012, 07:07:56 AM »
The scenario: you are carless or your very old car is on its last leg or was recently totaled in an accident.

Would you accept a new car as a gift from a male friend you have never had feelings for?  And if you did, could you do so without believing there were strings attached?  What if the man sought to date you shortly after giving the car?  Would you feel obligated to go out with him?  Would you tell the truth if others asked you how you "got" the new car?

What if the car is from one gay man to another?  Could the recipient of the car accept the car and not feel beholden to the giver if they never had a sexual relationship? ???

Is it inappropriate to give a car to some other than your spouse, child, or parent?

No it's not.  Unless it's a lifelong friend who has come into money.

Some people love handouts, especially women. Feelings of shame, responsibility, pride etc.. is of no concern if they are leaches.

...If you were truly close friends with someone, you wouldn't question their intention of helping you out.

Maybe.  Yes.  Give it back.  No.  Sure, why not?

Why would it be any different?  Beholden in what way?  Sexually?  Why would that be?  But if you at all think accepting the car will make you feel you have to perform sexually, do not accept it.

Definitely not.

You are on the women's board Mike  ;)  Phil is the last thing "gift" means here.
