The Bible is where this term comes from, "the mark of the beast" and the Bible makes it perfectly clear that it is not a symbolic mark. Without it you won't be able to buy, sell, trade, use anything to do with a standard society. Most Christians believe this to be an RFID Chip that will act like ID, credit, and information, your whole life inside of one chip.
