Do you find female workers become aroused by the animal smells and do they need to serviced as well?

No idea,

Most disgusting thing was to take off the cow heads from the grey vulture enclosure, in the summer time they would be crawling with maggots fuck I hated that so much.

Zoo's lively hood is based on that the animals are in peek condition, everybody these days (in the western world) feels a little bit guilty when they see caged in animals so at least they want to see them groomed and in good condition.
I the zoo that I worked most of the time but many other zoos I had dealings with they went to extreme length to make sure that the animals environment in the zoo matches very closely with the actual environment the animals are from - also that the animals have resting places from visitors, you wouldn't believe what the usual visits do to see the gorillas move and the lions roar, they have a very narrow minded impression what the animals are supposed to be doing when they are there and are disappointed when the croc is (as most do all day) is resting - so you need to create hiding spots for the animals so they can retreat and don't get too stressed.

Zoo's today are extremely important to repopulate the world with endangered animals and my zoo was heavily involved in various breeding programs.

Animals are always treated very well, you start having a relationship with them after a while, I was working for close to a half a year with a group of lemurs...

There was one male who none of the others liked, he was old and he was pushed around and he was tired defending himself, so they seperated him - and he had his happy little enclosure which he used to taunt the other group, I got quite attached to him and every morning first you do you go to him and kinda "shoot the shit" lol.

Tell you a great story which happened before I started as a zoo keeper, we had a salt water croc, it was very very big and fat - they get quite fat if they don't move much and are not put on a diet.

Like i said before most visitors have a very narrow minded and uneducted idea what animals are "supposted" todo, they cannot wrap their head around the fact that these animals live their, in their mind the animals are there to perform for them and at 18:00 Pm they pack their shit and head home.

So a female visitor was unhappy that the salt water croc wasn't moving - so she started throwing pennies at the crock, which the big boy didn't even feel.
She had her purse around her neck and it was dangling inside the enclosure when she was trying to throw more pennies.
Of course she didn't know the speed these crocs can move and that they can litteraly throw their upper body half of their size up in the air.

That fucking crock grabbed her handbag faster than she could react - WAMMMM - and she was hanging half way in and out - the crock furiously pulling and rocking.
She only survived because a zookeeper close by was keeping an eye on her and like any good zookeeper he had a knife and ZIPPPPPP!!!
cut the handbag.
She had brusing and all but was unhurt - the crock ate the whole handbag like a big fuck you ;D - Papers driving license money the whole lot.

;D ;D

Yeah I saw that as well - its not uncommon if you hand reel animals.

there are no animals that are easy to have contact with, the easiest would be fish probably but even there some of fish are extremely sensitive and expensive and dangerous.

Today no "wild" animals as in an animal that were capture from the wild are displayed in zoo's, certainly not in the western world - The animals that are displayed are animals that are born in captivity - there is as a difference.

Also I categorically refuse to visit or pay for an entry to the seaworlds were they have dolphins and Orcas, these animals are only displayed for the amusement and show tricks, there is no other purpose to capture these animals but for financial gain.
Since Orcas are notoriously hard to breed in captivity it is not uncommon or has been in the past to capture them from the wild.

Resist the urge to go to these places at all costs - I have no greater wish than to see an Orca, but I be fucked if I pay these organizations.

Fire away

Is it common for zookeepers to marry the animals they take care of? :)
