Same here, used to get beaten regularly by my step 'father' (Was 6ft 6", looked like a fucking viking), mother didn't do much to stop it, he even drove me on a fishing trip when I was 10 and on the way drove near some woods, slowed the car down and said "I could just take you in those woods, kill you and bury you and no one would ever find you". Good times! Other noteable special father and son moments included coming into my room when I was about 11/12 lifting up my bed cover and poking me saying "Hahaha you skinny little girl" - he died of kidney failure a few years later lol. 
Its hard for some people to understand how we can make fun of stuff like that, for me it didn't happen to me it happened to somebody else its weird to explain. My "mother" collected child money for me too feed her habbit while I was already with my step parents and the state could do nothing, she could have knocked on our door any second and demand to take me away and the state could have done nothing, fucked up.
