Olympic Swimmer's 3,300 Calorie Celebration Meal

American swimmer gorged at McDonald’s in first post-Olympics meal
By Chris Chase

PostsWebsiteEmailBy Chris Chase | Fourth-Place Medal – 2 hours 21 minutes agoRicky Berens was part of the gold-medal-winning relay Tuesday night that put Michael Phelps in the record books. It was the second gold medal of his career and his second overall medal in 2012. The race also completed Berens' program in London. So he and his 4x200 freestyle relay teammate Conor Dwyer went to celebrate.

"We had a dinner date at McDonald's," Berens joked Wednesday morning on "Today." "We put so much pressure on this meet. We sacrifice so much for the Olympic Games. We eat so healthily and we try to do everything right. It's our time to relax. That McDonald's in the dining hall was just calling our names."

It must have been shouting their names on the loudspeaker. When Berens got to the world's biggest McDonald's in the Olympic Village, he didn't mess around. He tweeted a photo of his post-Olympic conquest:

By our count, that's two Quarter Pounders with cheese, one Big Mac, one six-piece nuggets, two medium french fries, and a medium McFlurry with Rolo (? -- or maybe we're just projecting). Total calorie count: 3,330. Total fat: 160. Overall deliciousness after months of intense training followed by a taper? Off the charts.

Berens admits he couldn't finish it all. Like a good teammate, Dwyer pitched in to help.

I read somewhere that Olympic athletes eat calories in the upper-four-digit range daily since they have the metabolism of a jack rabbit.
