Facebook, the world’s largest social media site, has more than 950 million monthly active users… the question is, are they real people? According to company filings published this week, Facebook has more than 83 million illegitimate accounts.

The company acknowledged that as much as 8.7 percent of its 955 million active users might be fake. According to the numbers, 4.8 percent are duplicate profiles, 2.4 percent are user-misclassified accounts and 1.5 percent are "undesirable." The information comes at a time when many question the effectiveness of advertising and marketing on the platform.

These fake accounts are a violation of Facebook’s terms of service and the company says it tries to ‘detect and sup

He most likely bought some kind of computer bot program that sets up fake accounts by the thousands a day.

It's way more than that. I create an account every time I log-on, which is about once every 3 mths, because I can't remember the previous fake. I must have 4 by now.  Try about 20% of the accounts are fake.
