Government Stimulus Question
« on: August 17, 2012, 08:03:19 PM »
Wouldn't stimulus by cutting peoples taxes (versus this government stimulus) be clearly more effective?  Cutting taxes would achieve  the exact same goal, except the stimulus funds would be better directed, and the money wasted by government would be saved?

???

Wrong.  The government is too big to be anything less than precise and efficient with our money.

Think about it...if you need your oil changed, what will get it changed quickly and cost effectively; changing it yourself, or filling out the forms to have a federal agency reserve tax revenue in order to sub-contract out the job of deciding which oil-change companies are local to you so that a local representative can petition to have your oil change officially designated as "necessary" before hiring out the job of scheduling your oil change with a company that currently services the make and model of your car?

You gotta trust in government.  They's smart.  Plus, republicans are mean and there is SOOO much money wasted in wars and in un-paid rich person taxes.  Not to mention that GWB should be brought up on war crimes.

Very accurate post Doctor D!!!

I guess what I'm asking is why is there even a "tax and spend" versus "tax cuts" debate?

Isn't it extremely clear which option is more effective and the right thing to do.

You're too dumb to understand why government waste is actually less wasteful. My fellow progressives and I will mock you for not understanding why being efficient means you hate blacks and women.

No because the stimulus was for the banks not us.
I wish they gave a stimulus by cutting taxes though no argument here.

Depends.  how is the $ being spent?  Building new industries or opening new factories in china and buying baskets of foreign gurrencies and precious metals?

I'm all for droppingg the taxes for wealthy from 30-something down to 20% flat - ONLY on the amounts they contribute to USA GDP.  If you spend the money here, you damn sure deserve a helluva tax cut.  If you weaken the US dollar and US workforce - well, you're not helping things.
