Romney has been running for POTUS for the last 5-6 years so why didn't he tell his blind trust (wink wink) not to do any of the shenanigans the he normally did so that he could have a sanitized version of his taxes to release  for the last 5 years.

My first reaction to that question would be because Romney is greedy or stupid but I think the real reason is because Romney has always thought of himself as someone who doesn't have to play by the same rules or live by the same standard that are applied to the rest of "you people"

it is common practice for politicians not to release school records...it is very uncommon when a politician does not want to release his tax returns....George Bush and Senator Kerry did not release their records either

politicians do not typically release college records and the public actually could care less about that....politicians have traditionally released their income tax returns to prove there are no shenanigans going on and that said politician has paid his taxes...the public always wants to know this...

again...George W and Kerry did not release their school records...Rich guys always do poorly in school....they know that school is basically useless to them...especially when you come from rich families
