the knee wraps my just be put on snug not super tight. at his age and years of pro wrestling as well as football, a snug knee wraps will help the knees feel good during squats of such volume.

the belt is also a good idea. remember, the rock had a serious back injury during his college playing days at the U. when squatting high reps it is easy have a fail in ones technique. the belt is a good idea to help protect his back from injury.

there is no scientific proof that belts and knee wraps protect from injury...

numerous studies have proven that belts actually increase the risk of injury

x2.  His knees are probably shot to hell so he would be an idiot not to stabilize it somehow.

Well if the studies say so, Maybe if you spent more time in the gym you could discredit the "studies" thought your own knowledge.

Actually with shot knees and a $20million a film movie career, there's no reason for him to be squatting at all. But then again, Mr. Johnson loves hanging out with the boys.

When I was in the Navy they spent millions of dollars on back braces (those elastic belts with suspenders) for the aircrew guys that would have to lift heavy aircraft parts into place. There were more back injuries with the belts than there were without them, so the Navy scrapped them.

Fuck studies, sometimes you have to use some commonsense. In my case I've been using wraps since I started squatting over 35 years ago with no more than a meniscus tear when I was 41. Belt's are not for lower back support but rather transverse abdominus. Where have these injuries occurred with the use of belts?

Interesting. I have been doing squats (up to 405) and DL's (up to 495) for the last 20 years. I never wear a belt or use knee wraps, and I have never had any injuries.

This does not discount their use at all.  It simply means that you do not require them and have been fortunate (and strong enough) to do without them.  Again.  Your not using them does in no way discount their benefit to others.  Congratulations on training as you do!  It really is something admirable especially so since the greats of the past used neither wraps, straps or belts.  Good job, sir!

Hey, just saying. It's the way I was taught at a young age and it's stuck. I can still get a 520 box squat on a 14'' box at 50. I just can't recover like I used too. However, I teach my athletes to not use a belt but IMO, wraps are necessary at a young age (15U). If it works for you, then it works.

I'm about to turn 42, and I sure don't recover like I used to. I figure if I'm going to be one of the older gyms in my gym, I will also be one of the strongest Grin.

Looks to me like he's on a box.  Can't tell how many reps he's done from a snapshot. Not big weight for someone his size or juicing.
