He's probably more of a libertarian by today's standards.

what was that nice speech he gave before leaving office?

Ike had a unique perspective of things, being the supreme allied commander in WWII

The highest marginal tax rates under Ike were  91% yet somehow the "job creators" still made money

Today just the talk of letting the Bush cuts cut expire, thereby raising marginal tax rates by 3% is tyranny and communism and socialim and god knows what else

Why would the job creators even bother getting out of bed in the morning if they have to pay 3% more in taxes

Marginal tax rates don't tell the whole story. There were so many loopholes (and perhaps so much tax evasion) that the tax rates under Eisenhower gathered less revenue as a percent of GDP than the tax rates under Clinton did:

No there wasn`t.  My grandfather went to Prison because he did not want to pay the 91 percent income tax rate.  He said he would rather take the fine (which is what they did at the time), and keep the money and not cooperate.  He spent about 4 years in a Federal Prison during that time.

Then how do you explain the very low tax revenues as a percent of GDP? Just massive tax evasion?

MASSIVE.  You have no idea.  Anyone with money was evading as much as possible.  Jews were the easy target at the time, with McCarthyism and all.  They were the scapegoat for the massive evasion that was rampant at the time.

So I'm guessing that you are a big proponent of lowering effective tax rates in order to prevent such tax evasion?

I know the Old Man from Pawn Stars always speaks highly of him when someone brings in some Ike related items of that era.

I`m in favor of abolishing the income tax and replacing it with a National Sales Tax.  The only Candidate to campaign on that was in 2008, Democratic Candidate Mike Gravel.

Actually, GOP candidates who favored abolishing the income tax:

2008 - Ron Paul

2012 - Ron Paul, Gary Johnson (GOP now LP), Herman Cain (before he went with 999)

Ike was nominated by the GOP for his popularity. His nomination represented the death of the non-interventionist pro-free market Old Right, which was effectively destroyed by the FDR-era of Democratic vote-buying.

It does, but I think Mel Brooks did it better.

I am not advocating for this, but if the politicians institute a VAT then the effective tax rate will go as high as they like without the possibility of substantive evasion. Hauser's Law is a highly contingent empirical phenomenon that can easily become history, not a law of nature.

Back in those days, we also did not have free trade and still had an industrious manufacturing base.  Unlike nowadays, we didn't have to lower taxes to compete with other countries to entice businesses to stay here.  Now even states compete with one another to get business, usually in the form of lower taxes(Japanese and European auto makers are everywhere in the SE United States).

I love all these delusional left wing idiots sucking Ike cock.   had Ike had to pay for Medicare , medicaid, welfare, wic, food stamps, illegals , etc he could not have done those things.

I wonder if the incompetent delusional psychotic left will also suck Ike cock for his Operation Wetback which booted out illegals.
