I'm asking this because I'm actually getting tired of California. I've liked the feeling I get when looking at East coast boating communities. Looks peaceful

Well, moving permanently is a whole different story. I assume you want to open up a gym if you move?

Natucket is nice. As is Block Island. I'd recommend Newport over either, though. Again, depends what you want.

Block Island is a great getaway, if you want to get away from it all.
So isn't Cheaters in Providence.

Skip Rhode Island, skip shitholes like Worcester and Springfield, Mass. Nothing to see there.

If you're into gambling, head to CT (also has concerts, shows, a bunch of restaurants). Hotel rooms costs will shock you, though. You'll want to stay at surrounding hotels (not directly at the casino) if cost is a factor.

Yes, a third location. But also a place for a permanent move.

I dont think Vermont will be the best place to open up a hardcore gym :/ (would that be your plan)?

You would need to move to CT or Boston for a gym like that to flourish.

Ok, now you're getting more specific.

I grew up on the east coast and am thinking of a change/move as you describe, LOL.

Well, since you're in CA, the cost of property/lease, etc. (especially coastline) is up there and probably won't shock you, considering you're in an expensive part of the country, too.

Yep, nailed it. CT coastline or Boston area is where you'd want to be.

Then, there's also the suburban NYC area. Not sure if that's technical considered New England, but some nice towns/areas along the water.

Quincy, MA then would be ideal. It is adjacent to Boston on the south, is on the water. There is a beach and yacht clubs. North of a town could work too. Gyms are popular around here.

I am in NYC. Suburban area of NYC, technically, would not be considered the new england area.

But yeah, the CT coastline or Boston (or anywhere in NYC or suburban parts of nyc/ny) is where it would be at for a gym to flourish. I lived in NH and Vermont and gyms werent that popular. A lot of small gyms. A gym like Coaches wouldnt last a week, not because of Coach, just because a  lot of people dont do that type of lifting.

The more I think about this, I think the Revere, Everett, Chelsea area would be ideal for this type of gym. Coach, PM me when you come to Worecester again. I'll pick you up and give you the grand tour of all these locations.

I love coastal states and towns

Expensive? (housing)

Good place to vacation?

Cost of living?

Demographics (Wealthy, Modest, etc)

I go to Boston (Worcester) about every year or two but never to get out and explore.

Take advantage of the rock bottom real estate values in Florida.  Get in on the ground floor!  Sarasota!

Haha, I'll be there right around Nov-Dec. Not for work but to see one of my "kids" play football. He plays for Holy Cross.

Move to Worcester and you will want to hang yourself. How that place hasn't sunk into Hell is beyond me. Every other person who lives there is a rat. I believe Palumbo has a retirement home there. lol And since your very conservative, you would really fit in places like New Hampshire(no sales tax) And your gym would most likely thrive there(depending on where you set up shop) And New Hampshire is basically an outskirt of Boston. So you'll be basically within an hours drive to Boston from NH and even closer to the coastline.

I'm in NH, 20 mins from Hampton Beach (I go every week).
Great place to live (except for expensive house prices) and winters kinda suck if youre like me and not into winter sports..

Lowest crime rates in the country (Maine, NH and Vermont are always 1, 2, 3)..
Maine is only 20 more minutes North (York Beach, etc).

CT economy is shit, and is not getting better in the near future, especially in the fitness industry.  I'd suggest doing a little bit more research before making any type of gym investment.

What do you think the economy is like compared to California? (Assuming you know our situation)?

Worcester isn't Boston. Worcester is 50 miles west of Boston and has devolved into somwhat of a shithole. Aside from a couple of Universities it is pretty much garbage. The further west you go the shitier it gets, as in Springfield which is the last major city in MA before you get into New York State. Therefore the residential real estate market in Worcester and surrounding areas is dirt cheap compared to Boston. You will also find Worcester is rife with undesirables whose cultures espouse drugs, violence and murder. And it is not on the coast.

Boston, on the other hand, is on the Atlantic Ocean and is the world's epicenter of academics, medicine and culture. The prices skyrocket in Boston and surrounding towns like Brookline, Newton, Wellesley, etc as their public school systems are second to none and safety is way above average. The southernmost part of Boston is a little tricky because you have the nignogs in Roxbury, Mattapan and Dorchester. A lot of Cape Verdeans in Dorchester and they are absolute subhuman animals who kill one another like it was stepping on an ant. In Cambridge, which is adjacent to Boston, you will find Harvard University and MIT. However, you will also find Prius's with Obama stickers on them, man hating vegitarian douchebags, and male eunuchs who dress like their girlfriends and get "offended" by real men.

If you enjoy the beach, Cape Cod may be of interest although sections of the Cape are infested by welfare recipients and filthy Brazilians.

I lived in Cambridge while going to MIT and this post describes the Boston area very well. The Cambridge area is fine if you're young and a student. I don't think it is the place for a 50 year old gym owner.

But I could be wrong.

Don't move somewhere it snows, at least visit for a month and see how you deal with it. Your in one of the best places on earth to live weather and fitness wise. The only place maybe would be la jolla.
