People in general who resort to steroids are boring, dull and not interesting and use their body to garner attention and express their individualism. That's why. All a bodybuilder thinks about is drugs, food, sex and more drugs, what can a guy like this talk about ?

From mr O to the avarage gym rat, they share it in common and they are a chore to talk to, always talking about what they ate and what they will train which no one cares about, high light of the day is training ect, they upload shirtless pictures on facebook because they have zero persona and see this as a way of getting laid, however it rarely works and they get with some shallow slut as best, and always wonder why they cannot find a girl friend, which has to do with the fact that girls don't go for boring and uneducated guys who work some pathetic, plebeian job.

Go to any good university and you will notice there is no gym rats there ( or at least the ones who use steroids).

Because hes the current champ. Look back on here from years ago when Coleman was 'pregnant,no calves, talks like an uneducated hick''. He received just as much bashing, but now hes just remembered as the greatest ever. Thats just how it works.

Let's face it. Phil Heath's reign as Mr. Olympia has been a non inspiring 50 or so weeks of relative anonymity. Aside from a few derisive comments about his unnatural appearance, nobody discusses the guy. Not like Arnold, Lee, Dorian, Ronnie, etc. Phil Heath is a nobody who has failed to bring any charisma or excitement to the title. Worse than Dexter, which I didn't think could be possible. Why is Heath so insignificant? Why do the fans not connect with Heath in a meaningful way?

What kind of inspiration do you need?  That man is travelling the world making appearances. Actually, MORE people dicuss Phil thanks to the internet.

He DOMINATED the O last year and will do so again.

So how come nobody talks about Dexter favorably? According to your argument, he should be a legend now.

Because he's only won it once and he's still competing.

To me he just comes off as rather full of himself, which has a way of diatancing you from the common fan.
To me, he's actually quite humble, compared to an early Flex Wheeler. The vids that let you see his life are good, but some might mistake for being full of himself (the Bentley, the LV luggage, the manicures, pedicures, sneaker collection). It's different, who wants to see the same old "talk about weights".
And this dude is always out there with the fans, talking to people, and seems like he is very down to earth.

He said in his first vid, that when he'd train he'd download Ronne or Dorian vids and watch them, like when he doing cardio or for motivation.

He seems like he watches a ton of SportsCenter.

As one person said, he makes it all seem "easy" vs Ronnie. Now if you look at Ronnie and Dorian now, especially Ronnie, they are all broke down, Phil wants longevity, the hardcore way means you tear and break your body down.

What I'm saying is the current champ always has and always will get criticized. Thats just the nature of bodybuilding and bodybuilding fans. Do you honestly think there will be a day all getbigger's give praise to a Mr O? LOL never going to happen. Thats just what happens when your #1 in this 'sport'

Honestly, I don't think he's very interesting. Great physique- but nothing to say about training that's interesting or relevant. Isn't a philosophical rambler ala Kai or Mentzer, isnt particularly intelllectual, or controversial. His win was great - for him.
So, a chess master isn't worth following if he doesn't have a stage-worthy physique!?

People are jealous of his physique so they endlessly nick pick to find something wrong.     People who are perceived to have it easy like Heath are always going to attract negative attention.  All he ever had to do is stick a needle in his ass and grow.  Nature already did the rest for him.

Good points and may account for some of Heath's lack of enthusiastic fans?
Heath is known as "the gift". That implies his bodybuilding success is due largely due his genetic talent for bodybuilding.
Phil Heath didn't struggle for years in the NPC ranks trying to go pro. He won pro shows shortly after entering the pro ranks.
When it was his shot to win, he did, after Jay stumbled with an upper arm injury.
People want to root for someone who either struggled or is a unique character.
It is like a very pretty girl going to the prom and being crowned queen. The other girls might admire her, but nobody gets too excited when she wins. It seemed obvious and was too easy.
Here is my breakdown of the unique appeal of various Olympians:

1.Dorian Yates was one of the most popular Mr Olympias and he was NOT a very talkative , warm guy with fans.
His whole image was based on the idea of being an iron warrior traning in a dungeon.
He was known as "the shadow" and that image of emerging from his dungeon as a complete freak each yr appealed to fans.
Yates personified the ultra , hardcore ideals of winning via intense training, grainy conditioning and  drug use.

2. Arnold was the man and just had that size andcharisma that demanded attention and respect. Plus Arnold was a funny guy who could win support from any group.

3. Frank Zane won his three Olypias by having incredible shape , blance and being ripped to shreds. He wasn't the biggest guy but won by superior conditioning. Beating the giants made him popular with the masses.

4. Lee Haney was the soft spoken "awwshucks" sincere , decent man. Plus he had the greatest physique of his era and dominated the stage. He took the Olympia stage with a sense of class and dignity.

5. Ronnie Coleman is a larger then life persona in person. Ronnie was beyond belief in his prime. He was a cop, Div I linebacker and earned his way up the pro ranks to be Mr Olympia. Ronnie was a big, fun, friendly man that always seemed to enjoy being a bodybuilder , in and out of the gym. I can sum his appeal for me as Mr Olym;pia with ease.
Hardcore bodybuilders could show NON bodybuilders pics ofr videos of Ronnie or see him in person at an expo.
You could sit back, point at big Ronnie and say ; " That's Mr Olympia!" Then sit back and look at the awe and OMG look from the other person.

6. Jay Cutler is popular because Jay has incredible people skills. Plus, he is a big guy that represents what hardcore bodybuilding is all about. Being big, wide and massive with incredible legs.

Phil might be too low key and laid back?
When Arnold or big Ronnie walked in , their presence just owned the room.

When any Mr. Olympia walks in a room, you notice them. People dont realize what these guys look like in person. Its mind blowing. People say Phil is narrow, but in person, he is wide...maybe not when compared to Wolf or Kai, but Phil is BIG. And he gets very detailed and dry.

people don't like him because he is the face of a weak era in bodybuilding, and you could argue there was at least 5 - 7 guys that would've beaten him in the 90's

He's no Ronnie Coleman. Plain and simple. Ronnie will be the measure for all future Mr. O's. If you don't measure up to Ronnie, its just another bodybuilder.

Phil like Richard Jones didn't have to earn their way up the NPC ranks, because the quality is terrible.

What would he need to do to surpass Ronnie or Dorian?

Phil will need to win the O more times that Ronnie or Dorian.  Example, if bb "X" won it 3 times then bb "Y" would need to win it 4 times to surpass bb "X".  It's math.
