Yes. Any single species on earth is worth more than any roadway project for many reasons. As of now we don't have the ability to totally study all of the genomes of every species, but each species has a genome that is different and each species produces specific chemicals that are totally unique. So far we've found many cures to many diseases from using chemicals extracted from plants or animals.

What if someone told you that a chemical extracted from a microscopic mold could save BILLIONS of lives through history.

That is missing the point. Humans have the capability and responsibility to save as many species as they can. Not only for the ecosystem, for future generations but also for themselves. Evolution isn't always good for humanity, as you can imagine. Though, with humans living on Earth, it throws a wrench into the engine of the ecosystem because humans represent a threat to species that they have never faced before. Humans bring on a quick threat that most species can't adapt to, unlike some slow environmental threat where they can evolve as the go. If global warming was happening, but super slow, Polar bears would be able to evolve and deal with it. However, at the speed it is happening and the fact that humans kill them for sport, polar bears may be extinct soon. The same can be said for millions of more threatened or endangered species.

The US should halt all road expansion projects.  Driving individual cars is wasteful and harmful to the environment...4000 pounds is the average weight of a vehicle that transports an average of 300 pounds of humanity....wasteful.  Hybrids, electrics, natural gas are all equally as wasteful.  I like cars as much as the next guy, but there is the future to consider...and everyone having a car isn't going to environmentally or economically in the near future.
