Yes that's me and I grew up watching the Dukes of Hazzard. It was a great show that was family friendly and very entertaining to watch. So what if the car was blazing a Confederate Flag??? It was not a racist show and if you study your history books you would find out that General Robert E Lee had operated a number of illegal schools in the South that taught blacks how to read and write....not a bad guy if you ask me.
The car I'm sitting in was one of the many cars that was used in the show and it was the one they used for the casual driving around in the town scene and its owned by Ben Jones (Cooter) and its on display at the Dukes of Hazzard Memorbila Shop in Gatlinburg, TN.
The Confederate flag also never originally had the kind of racial connotations associated with it today.
Ben Jones is lobbying hard to preserve the image of the General Lee. Apparently, Warner Brothers has received a couple of letters from activists demanding that the flag be removed from the car in all future installments of the franchise, and they are seriously considering the change. Jones insists that the car, as is, is the most famously identified vehicle in TV history.
He brings up points concerning the history of the Confederate flag and the innocence of its use on the 1969 Dodge Charger.
