what is their fascination with this

There is a POINT to lifting a truck, increased ground clearance. While it is quite true that there are many dumbfucks that do it wrong, or just for appearance....the origins of it are functional....and there are a, lot if those trucks that see rough  terrain There is no point in putting ridiculously large rims on cars, it accomplishes nothing but to look really ugly and stupid.

Sorry, many of those transformer looking kits serve very little function---remember form follows function.
And like one head Audi Engineer once alluded to that race cars tend to be pretty, because those shapes work.
Most of those transformer looking kits never made it to a wind tunnel.

Go back and read my first post. I swear some of you need to go back to first grade. I said that there is no reason to put those big ass rims on the car. Effs the car up, increases braking distances, substantially increases unsprung weight. Slows the car down, and can cause the car to flip at speed.

I can't stand it---and I wonder where these rims are made, because they are making a killing off of ignorance.

That ish apparently came from the Texas area or other areas of the south. I don't follow the Donk scene, nor do I care for it---

the big rims, I can kinda see on a SUV, even the Lambo SUV that was just shown as a concept has 24s.
And in a sense, it has helped car design in some way. As many times the wheel well looks better with a bigger tire and wheel combo, to an extent. The problem with Americans, we tend to view bigger is better, when it isn't. Apparently on the racetrack (production car based) 18s are the optimum size.
And on the street for cars, 19s should be the max, but 20s are really pushing it. But it depends on the car---big body cars like S classes can look good with 19s or 20s, without the car looking raised up.


But, think of it like bbing, big legs (wheels) are stupid and serve no function, but many like the freak factor, even the bber has to waddle everywhere.

I remember back in the 80s, they used to put lift kits on those small Toyota trucks (the ones that would rust out), and Mazda trucks, and the Chevy S10s and Ford Rangers-----many of these trucks barely had enough hp to get out of their own way...it was purely for the look.
You go down south, you can still find those very same trucks.

Or removal of the stock rear bumper and putting chrome bumpers on the truck---and it's seeing the same small truck with lift kits and a tow hook.

I have a neighbor with a Mercury Marquis and those big ass rims, I just smh and keep it moving.
